From Rush Limbaugh's show today:

Second-Hand Smoke Proven Harmless -- Again - The Rush Limbaugh Show

... but from here:

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...lung-cancer-and-secondhand-smoke-9004077.html

Passive smoking – another of the Nanny State's big lies – Telegraph Blogs

"So now we've got three different studies proving that there is no cancer risk, no heart disease risk to secondhand smoke. Now, you might be saying, "So what, Rush? If people still don't like it, what, are you grassroots to bring back smoking in public?" No, no. I'm not that unrealistic.
Again, the lesson here is that you were lied to by a bunch of leftist busybodies. You were lied to in order to be forced to live your life the way they wanted you to. You were being denied freedom. You were being lied to and manipulated into believing something that wasn't true so as to impact the way you and everybody else lives, and you were converted into a member of the army of the anti-smoking who would go out and harass anybody else who smoked. You were lied to, to further the lies of a bunch of zealots."

earlier studies from Rush on the subject:

In Flip, World Health Organization Claims Secondhand Smoke Kills - The Rush Limbaugh Show

As I've stated in the past, the one thing that gov't uses to give the appearance of 'harm to another' vs. 'harm to self' is important in that the latter is no part of the concepts upon which the Constitution is based, so those that want to be the 'nanny state' have to do 'workarounds' to get over constitutional issues.

And while second hand cigarette smoke isn't near the same as second hand vapor, this argument is still used by the anti-vaping community BUT they rely on the fact that most people don't read the above studies. They rely on ignorance rather than reason, to make their point.

The thread title immediately made me think of an episode from the first season of Penn & Teller's Bullsh** that was 1/2 about the smoking bans because they said the same thing there. Worth a look if you haven't seen it!

I've seen it and they did a very good job on the subject. It's not what's bad for us they want to ban, it's anything we enjoy and anything they can come after us for. I think as a society we have become very intolerant of each other, and really quite angry about everything. There seems to be a huge amount of undifferentiated anger out there and people taking it out on each other for anything they can. People will seize on any petty thing nowadays to go after the next person.

I've had people complain about my vaping just because they could smell the vapor flavoring, and this while others said it smelled really nice. Didn't matter, if they could smell it at all they were offended! Somehow this was regarded as an aggressive an offensive invasion of their personal space, and they reacted with prompt nastiness.

As I have always thought and said, the “dangers of second-hand smoke” is just a means to an end. A lot of people really hate :

1) The way cigarettes look
2) The way cigarettes smell
3) Getting smoke in their eyes
4) Seeing cigarette butts everywhere

For these people, the negative health effects of smoking are used as way to get rid of a behavior that they don’t like. They will do anything they can (including lying and cheating) to make that happen. They don’t really care about anyone’s health but their own.

It upsets me to no end that people have lost jobs, insurance, homes over smoking A cigarette, when common sense alone told us the SHS was lies. This upsetnedness is compounded immensely upon discovery of the truths, thanks to the many truth era who've kept their persistence up. Yesterday I applauded the news was released again, but today I am upset again because of the silence heard about the rape and plunder of families. Where is the noise?

The media loves to convince everybody is doing it. Ever notice that? Well, if everybody else is doing it...

Really good thread! All I have to add is the obvious......All of the ANTI's and nanny state lovers can shove their passive vaping Bull:censored: where the sun don't shine!! Sorry these topics really hit a sore spot with me (as I'm sure they do with everyone). We all know there is zero reason for ANY government intervention of where e-cig's can be used. This should be left to business owners! Even in NYC, the passage was not based on science, it was based on perception. Eventually there is going to be a revolt from citizens as the NANNIES try to continue their mission. I don't know when, but I have to bet, it IS coming!!

I really hope this is true. Unfortunately, I see more and more people becoming dependent on the government to give them what they need and tell them what to do. The American people’s relationship with their government has changed drastically over the past few decades.

Believe me, eventually, nanny state will affect everyone. Even those who are in favor of it, will soon enough have their toes stepped on too! We will see quickly how attitudes will change!

Prohibitions stimulate business and encourage growth.

Well, at least for government.

Alcohol prohibition - resulted in massive growth of the FBI and IRS just to name two. Without it would we have had famous gangsters such as Capone and the huge government bureaucracy that resulted from the drive to stop him and his newly created class of criminal? Probably not. See? Good for business. More laws, more law enforcement, more control.

WWII prohibition on wage and price increases - resulted in the single most destructive force in health care: medical insurance. Look at how much increase in government we've seen from that one, especially lately. How many additional IRS agents have been hired to enforce the new healthcare regulations?

There are many more examples, but of course, it's all really been 'for the children.'

Demonize --> tax --> control. It's a moneymaker!
