I've seen in various threads that bases can vary in quality. For those of you who DIY: are some unflavoreds better than others?

My situation is that after a year of vaping, I'm beginning to have reactions to juices which I have until now been able to vape happily. Some make me cough, some irritate my nose. Some do both.
I got some ECBlends unflavored at 50/50 and it seems to not bother me. As an experiment, I also got some of their 100% VG and added it to the 50/50 (probably getting me to 80/20 VG/PG) and it immediately hit me hard in the lungs. Other high VG juices affect me the same way. Although to complicate matters, some higher VG juices (from Mountain Oak Vapors) only slightly bother me. And some 50/50 juices also make me cough and irritate my nose. So, perhaps I have some sensitivity to some flavor components (lemons seem to be one of them, as much as I like the flavor.)

I'd like to get more unflavored, partly to vape on its own, and partly to use to dilute the heavy VG juices in my inventory.

Is the ECBlends unflavored as good as it gets, or should I be getting others?
Any suggestions for me?

P.S. I'd rather avoid enormous bottles of bases and other bottles of Nic. I'd prefer to just get reasonably sized premixed 50/50 at various nic levels.

Wizard Labs unflavored vapes smoothly for me without any harshness at 12mg. They don't offer premixed VG/PG ratios, but buying a bottle of each and mixing to your tastes may come in handy anyway, as it sounds like you need more PG than VG.

I have experienced the same issues with my throat and nose with some flavors, particularly in the winter months, so I've reduced flavorings by about half and mostly stick to menthol/mints in a 2/3 PG 1/3 VG mix, and it helps quite a bit. Puffing without inhaling can also help if your throat is getting raw. Good luck tuning up your liquids to suit you!

Higher VG concentrations give me a heavyness in the chest. Adding some saline or distilled water may help but lowering VG content seems to help the most. Higher levels of PG as well as higher nicotine concentration will cause a dry hacking cough and harshness. So you may also want to consider lowering that as well. You need to find a balance of PG/VG/NIC that works for you. Not all VG/PG/NIC are created equal so what may have worked well with your last batch may not work as well with a newly purchased batch. So adjustments are nessessary.

Read my blog on adjusting bases.

Wow, that's quite a good resource.
Thanks alot for pointing it out to me.

Go to the thread "nicotine comparisons"

Go to the last page and looking back page by page from there, follow recommendations by Jimi D. If anybody can find clean nic, it's jimi.

I saw that Wizard was well liked in the nic comparison thread. I'll probably start with a vendor which does premix, like Nude Nic, and if it goes well get into the mixing. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with Nudenic at all. Keep it simple and small and check it out first. That's the cool thing about nic: we don't have to purchase large amounts to try it out.
