A week from coil heads?

LOL, some of you would be shocked to know how long my coil heads last.

On average I get around 2 months from a single head in my Aspire Nautilus. That's vaping an average of about 24ml per week of clear, unsweetened 60VG/40PG juice through it.

I get about a month worth of use from a single Kanger OCC coil for my Subtank Mini. That's going through an easy 30-35ml per week of a strong vanilla cream juice mixed at 80VG/20PG.

I get nearly 3 months of use from a single Freemax Starre coil head, going through 35ml per week of a max VG Vanilla Custard.

If your drive your car into a tree would you blame a car manufacturer?

Not only that, but the OP would request that the government put regulations in place that require automotive manufacturers to put warning stickers on the on the steering wheel to warn of the dangers of crashing into trees. Automotive manufacturers must also create and implement special tree avoidance technologies that turn or stop the car in situations where it may collide with a tree.

The government should also have to put regulations in place to make sure that trees growing in proximity to cars are dug up and transported to a forest somewhere safe from being damaged by cars.

A new government body that regulates automotive reviews needs to be created. All car reviews on all websites both professional and personal need to be moderated for accuracy to ensure that the reviews are not misleading about the quality of the car itself, the spare parts available to it, and of course, the success of its TAT (tree avoidance technologies).

That is impressive! Like the OP, I experienced much shorter lifespan from my OCCs. After my first burned coil, I always primed them, broke them in gently, never ran the tank low, and never went over 15watts. Still, I was only getting about 4days out of mine, and that is why I started using the RBA.

Maybe you have some advice for the OP and others how to extend the life of the OCC coils?

Main 3 things to extend the OCC coil heads.
Prime well before use.
NEVER run your tank dry.
Do not run at too many watts. If you run close to the upper edge of the watts they will handle they will not last very long.
I have used the 1.2 vertical OCC heads in a STM. Got about 3 weeks vaping 50/50 vanilla custard at 12 watts.

Blowing clouds costs more in coils and juice.

I experienced the same thing. If you get dry hits at 20watts, don't go to 20w. Keep it at 15. If you want to go higher, build your RBA for the tank.

Building your own is really the only permanent solution to what you are experiencing. A lack of manufacturing controls means that, even if the brand and model is the same, you are going to have a different experience with each pre-made coil you buy. Another thing I've seen in this industry is that early-run products are the best they will ever be. Coils that work great the 1st 10 times you buy them slowly degrade in usefulness as the product ages. I've seen it with several manufacturers with everything from cartomizers to coils to tanks to drippers. If you're going to stick with vaping for any period of time you'll probably get to rolling your own eventually. It's cheaper and the quality only improves as your skills improve. I've got three tanks going right now and each of the wick/coil builds on them are a month and a half old. They taste just as good and work just as well as the day I built them.

Hi All

As a newcomer I bought a ego one e cig
It worked well for around 3 days (around 5 hour vaping per day)
Afterwards it gave horrible burnt taste with serious side effects for the throat and lungs next days (felt like I smoked 2 pack of cigarettes when waking up)
I changed the device to the next best thing (kanger subox mini) 0.5 ohm , 23 watts with the hope that the coil will not burn In a few days (they are expensive as hell at 4 euro) ...well looking on newcomers forum I already see there is a thread who complains about kanger subox mini burned coils.
Google it I see this is a serious issue with e cigs very frequent. As a newcomer to vaping this completely ruined my experience and I am disappointed with the manufacturers quality (99% of them Chinese btw)

This is a serious issue (with some health effects issues). I think the industry needs to clear its [edited] or even better be regulated by big tobacco companies...I thought this was evil at the beginning but feel the unregulated stuff going on will be the death of vaping

Also I hope the fake reviewers on the internet should be ashamed for their fake reviews on faulty products

Nothing personal but your comments are very very inaccurate . Faulty devices and burnt coils ARE NOT a problem in the e cig industry , they are only a problem when people don't know anything about e cigs and have unreasonably high expectations .

You want to try something that is appropriate and will not disappoint you , buy an Innokin Endura starter kit , has everything you need and just flat out works .

To start I'm a 16 year smoker trying to kick the habit. I have bought over 20 tanks and 5 mods trying to find a viable replacement for cigarettes. Needless to say nothing got the job done.

I was getting frustrated and discouraged. I found this thing by chance. This is the best I've found to aid with quitting. One button, no variable voltage or wattage to worry about. Literally a fill and use device.

Flavor is awesome and at 15 watts it puts out substantial vapor with a perfect throat hit. I never rave about many products but I had to on this one. Do yourself a favor, spend the $30 and you'll be happy you did.

Not if he's using a clean, clear liquid. The darker the liquid, the worse it is for coils. All the stuff that contributes to a liquids coloring caramelizes on the coil. That caramelization shortens coil like significantly.

I completely agree. It was somewhere around the 2-3 week mark that I realized that I would be replacing factory coils way too frequently, and I purchased a spool of Kanthal and bag of cotton. I highly recommend it! I do keep a few OCCs around in case I need a quick replacement.

You may have identified the problem. With coil heads using cotton wicking, once you get a burnt taste, it's going to continue tasting burnt. Staying at a lower power should help.

Once you go high enough to get the burned taste that coil is shot.
The burned taste never goes away and will get worse as the burned cotton against the coil will not wick juice to it properly and it will get hot and burn the cotton more.

thats the nic hit.
the burnt hit will feel really dry and has a bad taste.

as you keep your firing button depressed, your coil is heating up. the longer you take the hit, the hotter it gets.

When that happens to me (If it feels kind of harsh), it's usually a sign that I am on the verge of getting a "dry hit" (not enough juice in the coil head).

So before I take the next draw, I cover the air holes and take a few unpowered draws (pulling more juice into the coil head).
