Upon further review and coutless conversations with modders... I think you need to ask yourself 3 questions... 1) What atty style will I want to use? 2) Do I want 3.7 or Higher volts to vape with (OR both options)? 3) Are looks important to me?

Bottom Line: From all the research I did (Which Im sure you did as well)... a "Hot Rod" as you call it, is nothing more then a battery housing with the 3 purposes that I mentioned above. Nothing more nothing less.

Once you pegged the Features you want the most... Go for it!!

IMHO, you don't have to spend $200+ to get what you want, however, maybe i should put Craftmanship as perhaps a 4th catagory... or hell... Maybe thats what your were actually refuring to all along. HAHA, If I had not sat here for 5 mins thinking of what I wanted to say... I would have edited this but oh well :p

You need to throw a meter across your Prodigy, my restricted switch comes in at 5.8v, even more depending what brand CR123A's im using. Not to mention i have gone through a few switches and only owned it under a month. Steve says I hold the switch down too long. I say he uses a cheap tactile switch that cant handle the amperage. He wont gimme specs for it, so who knows. When the warranty is up maybe i will sell it or put in a proper switch.

My 18650 batts measure in at 4.22v on a fresh charge. Plenty of power and longer lasting in comparison to using the 2x CR123A and the 5v switch.

FYI, the Li-Ion Tenergy CR123A pump out over 4v, and the ones Steve supplies pump out 3.4v fresh charge (also Tenergy). Battery manufacturer and type matters big time when playing the mod game. Try a meter and see for yourself. Bet your not vaping at 5v.

I believe the 5.8 volts is without a load (without an atomizer on it). When a atomizer is used, the voltage is reduced. A true test would be to open an atomizer, and read the current going through the wires upon use. You do not get an accurate reading by testing the contact without an atty on it.
You are in reality talking probably around .5 volts or less in difference.
I didn't think we'd have to make mountains, out of mole hills. But evidently that is important to you.

Yes, new or freshly charged batteries will read more than the specified current. Use those batteries for an hour or so, then do another reading. Do ya still get 5.8? I doubt it.
Do ya still get at least a 5 volt reading? I'd bet that you do.
See where I'm coming from?

I didn't want to get all technical and scientific. Just wanted to say get at least 5 volts... did I not?
Is 5.8 volts at least 5? Ya think?
Do FRESH batteries reading 5.8volts... mean six or more volts...NO.
I didn't say get a Prodigy did I.
I said I didn't care what 5 volt model the OP got, why would I?
I was just stressing... 3.7 rated models are not as good. I was trying to help a person who asked. I've been there.... done it. Save your money... do NOT get a 3.7/4.2 volt model.

I had two Screw Driver's, and used them for a couple of months. I wanted, and needed more. Bought my five volt model and never looked back.
Sold my Screw Driver's soon after. Do I miss them? ... not one bit.

UltimateG: You may get an hour more use out of your 4.2 volt model. BUT, There is no way in Hell you get better performance than a model using 5 volts!... I'd bet my Prodigy on that!
Once again.... been there, done it.
Your logic is wrong...period.
.....................................................................................................................

I've used my Prodigy/801 for over one month, no switch problems yet. Yes, I have the 5 volt resistor switch. The biggest problem I've had, is with tarnished brass contacts on each end of atty connector. I used metal polish creme to shine contacts (they now have a "chrome" like shine).
Up and vaping strong again. Do I regret buying two Prodigy's?... not one bit.

Bottom line:
BANDIT, get what's best for you... just make sure it's no less than five volts

The only high volt manufactured PV I am looking at now is the Super-T. The guy is local to me, so this is a huge plus, and his craftsmanship is wonderful. He incorporated a LOT of new innovations into the "battery holder".

That being said, I'm going to build my own 5v and 6v mods to try out before I drop that much money on a PV. If you're handy at all, you may want to consider doing so. The parts can be purchased at a local radio shack for around $15, all it will take is time and effort. The modders forum has plenty of information on what to buy and how to build it.

Best of luck.
