Been off the analogs for 7 months now but still feel like my sense of smell has not returned. It has improved but I still have trouble with subtle smells (which sometimes is a good thing :2cool: ) Not sure if this is how it is and not smoking related or after 27 years of smoking I just have to live with the fact that I kind of dulled my senses.

Just inquiring because I so often read how everyone can smell things again almost immediately after they quit smoking. Any long time smokers find themselves still lacking in this sense department?

I smoked for 38 years and I've been off cigarettes for about the same time as you. My sense of smell seemed much better after a couple of months, but the last month or so my head has been all clogged up again...maybe normal for me,though, because of allergies (I've only ever had about two times a year when I wasn't affected by some allergy or another!)

There are certain things, though, that I can smell now that I didn't before, stuffy head or not...main thing; cigarette smokers... they stink. Makes me cringe to know I smelled like that, but I must have. I never smelled that before, so I do know, even with allergies, my sense of smell has improved.

I have to say, though... I'd read so much about nasal congestion being caused by, or worsened by, smoking that I'd hoped that was a thing of my past when I quit...not. (but at least I now know it wasn't caused only by smoking!)
