My offspring are still smoking and it only took me 3 days to be able to smell them. I can now smell ppl have been smoking when I pass by them.

This has nothing to do with your sense of smell improving though, it's just that you're not used to the smell of smoke anymore. Same reason why you can't smell your own bad breath, you're just too used to it.

Personally, my sense of smell and taste was never that good to begin with, and there are some disadvantages to it improving. Thankfully, I changed jobs so I don't have to go to autopsies anymore, because there, I was very glad for the dulling of my senses. ;)

That said, I have noticed some improvement, but it's gradual and minor.

Taste seems a lot better, no much in the smell department though...the only thing I've noticed is that I can smell other smokers, it's pretty unpleasant to think that I used to smell like that. :(

.

That was the biggest thing I noticed. Walking past analog smokers really smells bad, and I never noticed it before. Also, a day or two after vaping, I noticed that my car smelled bad.. like an ash tray. I never noticed that before. Didn't think it was THAT bad because I always had my windows rolled down and blew the smoke out the window and all, but I could definitely smell it a few days after I quit.

Your tastebuds regenerate in around ten days. And that has a lot to do with your sense of smell. However, there are other factors one is age, if you started smoking ten years ago and your thirty now you can expect to suddenly have the sense of smell of a 20 year old again. You will still have the sense of smell of a 30 year old. I think a lot of people expect to end up smelling as well as they did when they first started smoking but that isn't going to happen. However, I think most people do end up with their relative sense of smell back. Same for sense of taste.

Other factors might also be getting in the way. Such as were you work or what you work with. Years ago I was welding for a living. I couldn't taste a thing and even though I was smoking when I stopped welding I noticed that my senses were better.

Peace!

The first day, I noticed how really BAD a cigarette smelled, but really took about a month before I started noticing any big improvements.
But I work with some mean solvents, glues, etc., so probably I am still not totally rejuventated. One of the things I first noticed were our closets. Didn't take long to get some extra laundry going. Then the curtains, then the ceilings and walls, then.....well, you get the idea. Coming in from outside fresh cold air, my house finally smells nice! Sort of like caramel in some corners. Funny how you don't think about tastes and smells until it comes back. It is amazing.

I could smell cigarette smoke strongly on someone's clothes and breath within about a month. By five months, from the bedroom, I could smell someone peeling an orange in the kitchen. The nicest part is walking into the house after six months and noticing it doesn't smell like ashtrays anymore.
