Hello all,

Newb here, still puffing the stinkers.:nah: Trying to find the best setup/kit for me though to start vaping and throw those stinkers away for good.

Let me give you some background first.
I have been smocking for the last 12 years for sure. It might be more but anyhow.
I have tried cigalikes about 4-5 years ago and it was bad. They were probably very low quality chinese thingys with a need to recharge every 2-2.5 hours. I had no knowledge on e-cigs so i thought that this is not for me and felt cheated (i paid 200 Euros at the time for two cigalikes with 1 charger and 4 cartridges each, no manuals, no branding or anything else). So i continued with the stinkers.:nah:

Aproximately a year later i finally quit smocking for 8 clean months.
Then due to having a second job for the little extra, as face control on a bar which all my friends worked with me as well, and JD after work but habits kicked in again.

Anyway, i am now back to right path and looking to get my vape going.
But, i researched a lot and instead of making things clearer i am lost.

So i need some guidance.
I need a vape that in not ego/pen/cigalike looking. I like the boxy and i cannot lie.:pervy:
I need something to last all day long (currently smocking about 25 analogs a day and some times maybe 30) so we are talking about a lot of puffing. (i guess that this means big battery capacity, high voltage and big tank??)

I need it to have variable voltage and variable wattage with regulated airflow so i can easily adjust everything to that points needs.
I want to have a medium throat hit as currently i am smocking rolled tobacco filtered cigarettes similar to lights?! not sure what is the nicotine etc on these but i am guessing that i will not need it to hit me hard. (i am using the imperial tobacco drum white)

And from what i read so far i will probably need RDA as well????!!!! not sure, definitely not sure on this one. Also not sure about the coil subject in general, ohms etc.
I need it to produce a good amount of vapor. I am not into cloud chasing, i just need a decent amount that i will enjoy though the quit smoking process, i will not attend shows.

I need it to produce kinda cool vapor so from what i learned so far i probably will not need anything more than 100w as anything above that is very warm? (this can also be adjusted from variable voltage and variable wattage??!! right??)
I want it not to leak when i lay it flat or something and never get that e-liquid in my mouth poket etc.

Also i need to be able to see inside the tank but it has to have some sort of protection around it (i have two lovely boys home, very very curious on things, i bet they will find it and drop it. First thing i am worried is not to get cut by any glass etc and second not to get the e-liquid on them.)
Probably there are a couple more but its ok nothing serious i think.

Phewwww.:w00t: If i forgot anything that i should have mentioned please add it below so other newbs can get ideas.

So share your setups, give us newbs suggestions so we will nail this the first time and get exactly what we need.
If i can i will keep this post updated with all the options as reference to other newbs.

Thanks all in advance for the replies, help and the patience to go through this massive post.

All the best,
the metalhead:headbang:

Welcome @4evermetalhead :)

I'm not familiar with what's available in the UK, but from a device perspective, I'm liking an iStick 30 and a Nautilus (full or mini) or a Kanger Subtank (Mini or Nano)

You don't *need* an RDA - I get plenty of vapor production (I use a higher-VG juice for that.) I'm running about 9-12 mg nic in my juices. You might want to start between 12-18. Get a couple toward the higher end and a couple toward the lower end - you could mix to get somewhere in the middle, if the 18 is too much.

The Nautilus tanks have replacement sleeves which are part metal/part glass. That way, if dropped, you might be less likely to experience breakage.

Personally, I would recommend starting with a standard ohm tank (as opposed to sub-ohm). Then see what you NEED from there.

For a good starting device, I would recommend the eleaf iStick 50w, with an Aspire Nautilus Mini. This isn't a cloud chasing setup at all, but it will give you great vapor compared to any "cigalike". The mod (also known as the power source or battery that powers your tank)

If you still feel that you need more vapor, look into the Aspire Atlantis v1 with the 1.0 Ohm coils. If you do choose to go with the Atnantis, I highly recommend cutting the nicotine down a lot to either 3mg or 6mg. Some people can handle higher nicotine levels, but I don't want to see you wreck your throat with too much.

Hope this helps in some way :)

I'd suggest a Subox Mini Starter kit.

Comes with a 50w Subox and the Subtank Mini.

It is VV/VW an has all the modern protection circuitry, is powerful enough to provide good vapour, and is not very expensive.

I'd suggest you start off on 6mg juice and see how you go.

You could get the whole kit, a 18650 battery, a charger, a pack of spare OCC coils, and a bottle of juice for less than $100 USD.

This would be a better starter kit than I had when I started vaping, and would seem to fulfil your listed requirements.

As for the kids, it won't be child proof, and you will need to treat it like matches, bleach, fireworks, or anything else you'd have to ensure your kids couldn't get their hands on.

The past 2 weeks i was just reading the same and the same and watching the same products.

Thank you all and i hope suggestions keep coming.

Once i have settled to a setup i will share it with you and get some feedback.

Hi @4evermetalhead
PG, VG are basic components for all e-liquids.. with the addition of nicotine & flavors (basic components at least).
The % of PG, VG gives you different vaping experience - in general:
- high PG (70% FOR instance) give you a strong though hit;
- high VG (70% FOR instance) gives you a smoother vaping experience and more vapor, but less flavor (PG carry the flavor actually).

I started my journey with Dekang (75 Pg) having a basic starter kit, the more I learn and bought other type of tanks (with beefy coils and so on) I started to buy higher VG based liquid.

If I would start now to vape I would go for an eVic VT Mini kit with 1 ohms coils (CLR rebuildable).

I know that I gave you a lot of info in a short time - look here for above set-up:

Wow very good info.:w00t:
Seems that reading all your posts people has cleared a couple of things and gave some good ideas.:thumbs:

Will try update the original post with some options and statistics.

One question. Can i add to the above details some links and some general pricing so other newbies can get ideas and save them from researching this info?

Thank you everyone for all your help and effort.

All the best,
the metalhead:headbang:

I started the old fashioned way like you and found it very unsatisfying. By the Nautilus era I was able to stop smoking completely but it wasn't very enjoyable. I was hanging on by a thread and prolly wouldn't have lasted. I was a heavy smoker and I hit my smokes hard. Long slow draws don't work for me. I smoked Rez cigs which are a combination of tobacco, floor sweepings and dog turds.

I suggest skipping this phase outright.

What I'm seeing lately, and I pay attention to these things, is people are walking in stores, walking out with a 50w (not an exact number 30-100) mod and a sub-ohm tank and never thinking of smoking again. I was in a very busy vape shop the other day (will Midtown Manhattan do??) and folks was in there hitting off TFV4's from day one. I can't believe how easy it is to quit smoking these days.

The Subtank Mini is a great starting platform. I know and know of many people who buy the Subox kit and never smoke again. 100 bucks and done. I spent more then that for my first settup which was, lets be honest, crap.

personally I'm at 25-35w with RTA's and unlikely to change. But your spot maybe 100 or whatever. The Subox gives lots of choices. If you really wanna save money long term make your first mod your last and get a SX Mini but thats a different thread...................

i agree don't start on a crap setup go for a professional kit straight away , wish i had i spent a lot of time with unsatisfying setups . now i'm using a sub ohm set up at 36 watts i don't even think or feel like smoking.
do yourself a favour and get something decent with plenty of vapor and taste. you'll thank us for this in the end.
skip the ego devices they just don't hack it.

Thanks fellas.
That was my original idea. Make my first purchase the last and don't spend constantly on upgrades etc.
Having two kids to raise, mortgage and bills is already chocking hard. I just found out that decent upgrades and mods don't come in cheap.

So target now is to spend those big ones ones and that's it.
I might not be a pro on figuring out sub-ohms but still i believe there is more than a simple starter kit.

I guess that other newbies who are just like me have this draw back from stop smocking. Way to many options, setups, details, etc that create a fog on the subject instead of clearing things out.:vapor:

So what i decided and what i think is best for other newbies on vaping is nail the setup the first time. No matter if you will never use some options on your vape.:2c:

I agree with outcast. I love my mvp pro. Its high quality, excellent battery life and plenty of power(60w). With that you could get an aspire nautilus mini, for when you are needing more nicotene and maybe an isubg or the new apex. I personally have not used the apex but it looks like a quality tank that can utilize higher or lower resistance ohms. Of course using subohm coils, you're gonna need lower nic (.3mg to .6mg). And all of the tanks mentioned above can be found from 12 to 25 dollars each. I hope you find what you need to help. And if you can find it, you will probably find it here.

If I were to start over today. Whith the plan to quit smoking.. I would get go to Fastech or Focalegig and buy the following 1 20-40watt regulated device, 1 Subtank type tank and a battery charger if the mod has replaceable batts. But not the batteries. On the subtank I would chose one that has 1.2 or 1.5ohm replacement coils available, these would be the starter coils. Next atomizer choice would be a Nautilus with BVC coils at 1.5ohm. This would be my All Day Vape. I Might also order a Mech mod and rebuildable tank or dripper to play with but not as my main atomizer and mod. ALL of the items listed above could be had for less than $100 US delivered.

batteries and juice I would get locally or via internet just not international shipped.

@coolerat that tfv4 is in my wish list since the moment you posted it. Thanks mate. Any other similar?

Also love the looks of x cube 2 and the options with kinda high vw.
I was watching this buddy here:
But at 9:56 he says something for the 510 that my ears can't pickup or understand. Kids are sleeping so I can't get the volume higher. I did understand that is a con and that not all tanks work on it????

Any similar to x cube 2?

Thanks,
