Not too sure about the reasoning behind your question:

- If you are about to change up from buying pre-filled carts or cartos, I think the best way is to buy your liquid from specialist suppliers such as those who advertise here. They have done all the hard work for you. Get several small sample-size bottles from two or three suppliers, to find something you like.

- If you have tried lots of different liquids and don't like the commercial ones (which seems hard to believe as there are thousands of different offerings now), or are broke and need to DIY, or are in some remote location where shipping is problematic, then the best way is to use the recipes in the DIY e-liquid forum here. All those questions are taken care of, then.

DIY e-liquid

Good luck.

Sounds like rolygate is not big on DIY.;) I'm not either, but I know that many vapers are ... and that DIY is to commercial e-liquid what modding is to commercial PVs, i.e., the fountainhead. [And read cyberwolf's article praising the virtues of DIY.]

I do know enough about DIY to know that you can add water (or vodka or PGA*) to VG, although you certainly don't have to. The purpose is to thin out the juice. VG is quite viscous. As you might imagine, don't add too much.

* What the Professional Golf Association has to do with it, I've never understood. [Yes, I know that the mouse-over defines PGA differently.]

As for how much, I fully agree with rolygate: explore the DIY E-Liquid forum. Note especially Scubabatdan's classic ejuice calculator ... and daath's simpler e-Liquid Calculator.

It's funny, but most of my stuff is DIY at this point in time because I only do VG and to be honest the selection where I live isn't great. There is no way to get Blueberry Waffle @ 36mg here unfortunately...

So actually I am big on DIY :)

It's just that I don't understand the OP's situation fully. I think he would be better served by some commercial mixes at this stage, unless there are reasons he has to go DIY - in which case there are good resources on ECF that he can go to, the DIY E-Liquid Forum being the obvious place to start.

And, if it is that important - yes, I add alcohol in the form of rum to pure VG when it is too thick, as it contains the DW and alcohol that improves the VG base. And it tastes pretty good too.

I use distilled water to thin my VG DIYs. Anywhere from 5 - 20%, depending on the amount of flavoring I use, and how much that flavoring thins the juice itself. General rule of thumb for me is flavor% + water% should be about 20%, if the flavoring is PG based, as they generally are. I have had some unthinned premade juices that were VG based. Very thick, but also very nice for dripping. Cartomizers need thinner juice to wick well in the filler.

Not all high-nic VG unflavored juices are the same. MyFreedomSmokes 100% VG really is very thick, and Chris has told me it is nic + VG only, no thinning. Vermont Vapor 35 mg VG does have water in it already, so I use less water to further thin it for a DIY, and sometimes none.

I am also someone that does NOT like alcohol in my juices. I did use it for a while at about 10% to thin my DIYs, but they always dried me out too much, much like the reason I do not use PG, and they actually made me fairly light headed. Inhaled alcohol vapor does indeed go right to the lungs and the brain. Anyone that has used a brandy pipe knows that one can get fairly high on only a couple mL of inhaled alcohol. This is not a judgment call on the vets that do use it...it is a very common thinning agent that the majority here do not have problems with...but I do not drink alcohol at all, and so any effect, especially with my scientific research or martial arts time, is quite noticed. And I was trying to avoid the dryness that PG produced in the mouth and throat by going to VG juices, and alcohol was doing almost the same.

Just my $0.02.
