A7 RBA set-up for bottom feeding - YouTube @lazymatt, I did some searching, and I was going to try this method tonight, just because I have some of those q tips at my house. I will venture out into the city tomorrow and find some proper cotton wick.

Uuh, how to put it gently. It's hard to knock on someone that bothered to make a very nice and instructional video, while I haven't. But that way is a lot more involved than it needs to be and produces a PITA results.

By all means, try it. I have, didn't like it, but enjoyed the time spent playing.

There's another A7 thread on the Reo forum here, with lots of tips and pictures. Here's what works for me:

1. Roll a coil around a solid object. Toothpick is what I use. It allows you to space out coils just right, measure resistance as you roll it, and (most importantly) allows you to make consistent coils each time. This is the stage where you want to get the resistance you want. Incidentally, 7.5 loops of 30ga kanthal around toothpick is 1.7 ohm

2. Attach the coil with the said solid object between your posts. Keeping your toothpick/needle/whatever in place is key here. It makes it a lot easier to move and adjust the coil without deforming it. Make sure that after the screws are tightened, the coil does not touch the posts or air duct. The closer to air duct, the more vapor and less throat hit.

3. Pull the toothpick out. Using a needle threader or excess kanthal wire, pull your wick through the coil. If using cotton yarn (which I like to), make sure it's not tight in the coil. You need to be able to move it around pretty freely. When wet, you want it to be able to expand.

4. Chop off the extra wick sticking out. Here there are various schools of thought. I leave a good inch on each side, and tuck it all into the cup of the atty. That allows me to only have to squonk every 20 minutes or so. Other people like to cut it pretty short, about 1/4 inch. That will give you more clear flavor, but you will have to squonk more. I justify longer wick with the fact that I make my own juice and can just add more flavor. That way I still have plenty of flavor, but don't have to squonk quite as often.

5. Put a few drops of juice to prime the wick, screw on the top cap, give it a blind squonk (*) and vape to your heart's content.

(*) blind squonking is when you gently squeeze the bottle while sucking (for lack of more scientific term) on the drip tip. Stop squeezing the bottle when you hear slight gurgle. That pulls the juice straight into the atty without spilling half of it in your hands.

I've tried using 100% Cotton balls that I picked up at Walgreens.... Maybe it was because I was still new to RBAs but they were literally terrible and I could NOT get a good vape out of them. I'm 99% sure that it was due to user error, but ever since I picked up the DMC 5 threads I have NOT had a single bad vape. I got those threads out of advice from JCOkie and she couldn't have been more right about how great they are. I think in the mean time you should practice with the silica wicks, they are definitely pretty good as well, but I just didn't like the whole microfiber "fracture" thing and it makes me paranoid that the those fibers are getting into my lungs. Are the A7s your first rebuildables? If they are I GUARANTEE you that it will get better as you become more proficient at coil building. I remember when I first started I was like hmm.. these are good but my regular atomizers still seem better... After 2 months of practicing and building, there is NO WAY I will ever go back to buying regular atomizers again. Also, do you primarily vape Bobas? Like I said before those things are an atomizer killer and when you do get good at building coils, I will guarantee that using Bobas will gunk it up like crazy! But its an easy fix... all you would have to do is just take the nasty wick and throw it away, then with the coil STILL ATTACHED just press the button to burn off the gunk on the coils. It should go from oily black back to the steel color and throw on a new wick and your good to go.

It makes me want to punt my vmod across the yard, but I better not. I'll keep it around incase one of my friends wants to try bottom feeding.

Thanks for the advice on the cotton balls, I'm glad I tried the silica instead of messing with that. I have a little experience with rebuilds, more SS mesh though. This was relatively painless, which was nice. Call me crazy, but I prefer silica/cotton to SS mesh, so the a7 right now is amazing. I will go get some DMC 5 thread tomorrow if I have time. I think there is a Michaels in my town. If not, would Hobby Lobby have some supplies?

Side question, how long can I expect the shorty 1.7s to last? I probably plow through about 3 mls of Boba's a day, I'm not expecting more than a couple days out of them. That was with the vmod, so I will have to see how much I'm vaping with this. It'll be nice to split the duty between a couple different atties/cartos. I also really like the 306, especially after the battery had run down a bit. It's pretty hot on a fresh battery, but great flavor. I gotta say, vape wise, today was a spectacular day. I had 5 packages get here, including a co-op order from a couple months ago that I had nearly forgotten about. I've never been so happy with a mod purchase though. Even when my Provari came, I was a little bummed I spent so much for an upgrade over my lavatube. Don't get me wrong, I love my Provari, but it didn't offer a completely different/better vape. It was just really consistent and built like a horse. This damn Reo, though, is so far beyond my last BFer in every way. Some of that is the carto/atty, but it is a brilliantly simple device, and absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks again for all the help, and I'll post a few pics of the cotton build on my a7 when I pick it up.

Here are pictures of my coil and wick setup on my new Hornet RBA. Clouds of vapor and just simply clean, great tasting vapor every time.

@super_x_drifter I haven't played Halo very much, I've only had it about a month, and had never played Halo prior to this one, so our KDs are probably very similar! I am such a noob that I don't know what operators and pathfinders are. The dude I play Halo with only plays regicide, so I haven't ventured out much beyond that. What games do you play? I haven't even touched the campaign, yet. As for the REO, I'm loving it. I'm really surprised how good the flavor is on these 1.7 shortys. Bobas tastes as good as it did on my Shifu Hybrid, and much more consistent vapor on the shorty.

I like Spartan ops missions and big team slayer mostly. I want to try Regicide, i have seen my kids play it - looks like a blast. My sons and I also play some custom games against other "drifters" - there are alot of us!, my kids, my nephew, his dad... Remember, I am not that good, age slows ya down some, but I have been playing since original Halo came out. My 11 year old is REALLY good. We need to hook up. We are always looking for decent (no language around my kids!) people (victims) to join in the fun. I usually play on weekend nights. Doesnt matter how good ya are.

Operators (and pathfinders and others) are the next level up in the SR ranking system. If you go to customize your dude, tab over to the big box with the SR in it. You will see that they are all locked. Once you hit level 50, you can pick a different SR (specialization). each one has different powers (wetworker assasinates faster for instance). I will pick operator when i reach 50 because he has more skillz with vehicles - i like the vehicles! lets rock.

Another great thread.

I must admit to having 1 very positive recent experience with vapage's customer service: I ordered a vmod xl online over the weekend, and when they e-mailed me today asking if I needed to change or cancel the order I asked them to cancel it...which they did!!

Earlier today I received the shipping confirmation email from Reos. So stoked!!

I bought my thread from Michaels so I'm not too sure if Hobby Lobby has it... but I did visit their store and it seemed like a Super Michaels lol so I have a feeling they would have it, if not you could always just buy some other "Embroidery Thread." If you can't get your hands on it I would be glad to send you some! I've had a truly kind soul send me a bunch of threads to try out. By the way when you do get your threads: Make sure you BOIL them in a pot! I've posted this before, but I REALLY think that boiling the cotton from the start will give you a much better experience.

Just boil the cotton in a pot with water for 10 minutes, then drain the water and put more water and Re-boil the again for another 10 minutes. Then let it dry for overnight and you will be good to go!
