If you've made it this far in this thread, you're obviously serious about making sure you learn everything you need to know to get the best out of a Reo mod.

Here's a summary of acronyms pertaining to batteries and what they mean:

ICR = lithium cobalt oxide; aka: Li-ion; 3.7 volts
IMR = lithium manganese; aka Li-Mn; 3.7 volts
IFR = lithium iron phosphate; aka LiFePO4; 3.0/3.2 volts

Great sources for additional info:

If digging thru tons of pages for info isn't your bag and you have a specific question, just ask! I'm lazy, so I'll just link you to one of the pages above, but other Reonauts are usually willing to be more thorough!

How did you know that I was looking for battery info?? I'm going to have to have another cup of coffee to get through that wealth of information though!
I have a mental block with numbers and electronics....If anybody could tell me in layman's terms what I am looking for when I use the multimeter on the batteries. I think I'm seeing not to overcharge...the 14500's should be no more than 4.2 volts after a charge. (is that correct) What about the 18650's?

casualuser is absolutely correct!

In my experience, 14500's usually measure right at 4.18 volts fresh off the charger and 18650's meter at 4.20 volts.

I only use AW IMR batteries and a Pila charger.

I usually swap my 18650's when they get down to 3.8 to 3.9 volts. That's just my preference.

Funny thing is that if I pop them back in the charger at 3.6-3.7 they only go up to 3.88-3.9 when I drain them till 3.2 they charge up much better to the full 4.20 - You have to be careful cuz I just drained my 18650 to 2.75 is that too low?

You might have shortened their life-span; and keep an eye on it when you charge it and first use it after the charge. Look at the specs for your battery. It will have a maximum discharge.

Sounds like a charger issue to me. What charger are you using?

Also, discharging down to 2.75 is lower than what most manufacturers recommend. If you decide to recharge it, I'd do it outside on a slab of concrete away from anything else. Just to be safe.

So the "I have my Reo but no battery saga continues."
Got the batteries today for my mini, but the mini is in transit.:(
So I am still looking at my Woodvil, wishing I could use it. I contacted a ECF neighbor that can meet me tomorrow and let me borrow some 4.8 Ni-mah's. Will these work?

It is raining, so I did throw myself in the mud.

Yes, they'll work. 2.0 to 3.0Ω attys or cartos are suggested. 1.5Ω dual coil cartos are also decent with those batteries. Enjoy!

Hi REO family. I'm getting real close to choosing a REO as my first mod. After reading this thread, I'm left wondering, if I don't have a mutlimeter, how do I tell when the battery is getting down to that 3.0ish level and needs to be replaced and recharged? I can see it's not good to discharge them too low. I mean, it's obvious that a multimeter is very handy to have, but is it IMPERITIVE to have one if you're going to use a REO? Are there any flashing lights or indicators like on my ego batt?

Thanks.

Hello Vego Having a multimeter is nice but its not necessary. Most people can tell when its time to change the battery. I can tell just by the performance of the mod .If your running a 18650 reo change the battery once a day and your set .If your running a mini or a 14500 mod change the battery when your bottle of juice is half empty .I just change the battery when the performance drops .
