Has anyone else noticed in these forums that any time someone asks about the Evic and you try to give a logical, balanced reponse as to what to expect with it, you get attacked by half a dozen Provari fanboys/trolls?
I don't think the Evic is the best thing since sliced cheese. I don't think that about the Provari, either... or ANYTHING I use for that matter, and not just vaping supplies. To me, everything you purchase has pros and cons and it's a matter of weighing out what you value the most.
If there was another device like the Evic that was bullet proof and never experienced any firmware bugs or issues with updates... sure, I'd buy it. Do I expect it though? Not really. Because I seem to be one of the few that realize the Evic isn't just an APV, but a computer... and no matter how much you drop on one, it's bound to have those issues. It breaks down when you abuse it. It has bugs in the OS. It sometimes screws up updates. Etc...
The battles going on in these forums over Evic vs. Provari kind of remind me of the battles that were going on when smartphones came out. Did anyone else frequent cell phone forums at that time? It was just as bloody... the old school advocates HATED smartphones for being so much more fragile and prone to error than their flip, candybar, and slider phones.
Then once ALL the carriers made the switch to smartphones and pretty much forced it on everyone... things started settling down. Lots of complaints in the beginning, but people got used to it, and started taking better care of their phones or started paying the consequences without a word.
Personally, I have not had a single problem with my Evic... but I also knew what to expect when I bought it, and was prepared for it. Sure, it's gotten dropped half a dozen times... but never without a protective case.... same as my smartphone. If I have a firmware issue, I know how to downgrade, and in the case of a bad update I know how to try it again and just settle with a downgrade if the update refuses to work.
Meanwhile, considering my young son broke a $600 smartphone with Gorilla glass and polycarbonate body AND a protective case in 30 secs or less just because he got mad at a game... as well as some other very expensive "indestructable" electronics... I can't really justify spending more money on "indestructable" technology any more. A young kid will always find a way...
Do I think everyone should think this way? No. That's just me, and my life. Why can't some people realize that what works for them doesn't work for everyone else, and thus these forums need to be a source of balanced information, and not just a bunch of fanboyish hype and trollish flames?
