Side effect of quitting smoking?

Hi guys,

So this is a bit embarassing but I'm going to go ahead and throw it on here anyway.

I've been vaping since a week now and haven't touched an analogue since. Feel great, no cravings for analogues whatsoever, very happy with a seemless transition from smoking to vaping (so far at least).

I have noticed though that my previously frequent 'bowel movements' are now few and far between. I used to be regular like clockwork (once a day) but now I notice that I cannot 'go' but once every three days or so. I also feel like I'm not digesting my food as quickly. It feels like it lingers in my stomach for hours after eating. Never had this problem when smoking. Seems like my gastro-intestinal tract is on a strike or something.

Is this a side effect from quitting analogues? Has anyone else experienced this while switching from smoking to vaping? Did your body adjust to this and become regular again after a certain amount of time?

Sorry for the subject, but to me this is the only very noticeable thing that has changed bodywise so far. I just hope that I can enjoy my daily 'relief' again soon without turning to laxatives or something.

For the record: I think my diet was (and still is) quite healthy: oats, lots of fruits, fiber, vegetables,...

Would like to hear from fellow vapers that hopefully had a similar experience. And really hope that this is a temporary phase and not a permanent adjustment of my digestion.

Thanks everyone!

Tom

Well for me analogs always helped me to get out good craps. One of the reasons I would often smoke in the bathroom. Especially after dinner. lol. Not sure what it is exactly about them but they did help me to go easier. Though I never really started having this happen until after i had my gall bladder out. From what I have read up online though this isn't unusual. A lot of smokers find it helps their bowel movements. Unfortunately vapes aren't that great at helping with it. Still I'd rather have vapes any day.

Thanks for the encouragement. I must say that I have no cravings for analogues whatsoever. It baffles me because I loved my analogues and used to think that I could never quit those smelly .......s but after a few vapes I really lost all interest in them.

About the water thing: I really do drink lots of water. I'm always drinking water when vaping and I think I easily reach two to three liters a day. If I drink more I'll turn into a goldfish. ;)

I hope it's just my body adjusting to a drastically new situation.I'm one of those people that can't go for four days or so when on holiday. Seems that holding everything in is my body's way of coping with a sudden change in environment or habits.

It's been three days now without a toilet visit. Sucks bigtime. I just hope in a few days everything starts moving again inside.

I want the analogue junk out of my body: the crap out of my lungs and now also the crap out of my bowels. :p

I noticed this right off the bat as well when I quit. I was on a schedule that was like clockwork everyday. I could almost set a clock to it. The only thing that changed for me was the actual smoking. For me I am pretty sure it was mainly a reduction in the nicotine I was getting. I would start my day off with three cigs chain smoked and as soon as I was done it was time for my morning constitution. The first day without smokes I skipped the bathroom for two days. I have since gotten back on a schedule and have no problems. I would eat a bag of prunes before I would start smoking again. Good luck and I hope everything comes out ok.

Hi Sooter, I know exactly what you mean. I used to wake up and smoke two analogues on an empty stomach. Then take breakfast, smoke a couple in the car on my way to work and when I arrived at work I was in the bathroom within the first ten minutes of arriving. :) Regular like clockwork for me too. I'm certainly bummed out by this (hopefully temporary) constipation spell but I'm definitely not going back to cancer sticks for the sake of pooing.

I'll just wait for the bowel strike to end and hopefully when things get going again my digestion will return to its former rhytm.

Djeez I never discussed my bowel movements on a public forum before. :p

Two possible issues:

Dehydration, as many have mentioned.

Did you see the "House" episode where he prescribed cigarettes to a patient who was constipated (It really is a classic! - The best part was Patient: "But won't these kill me?" House: "I prescribe drugs all the time that can kill people")

Smoking cigs is known to reduce constipation. Quitting them. logically, would be likely to have the reverse effect.

Yep, I had the same issue. If you're only off the cigs for a week, it may actually get worse before it gets better. I think it was worst for me about 2-3 weeks in. Then my wife cooked up a big batch of sauerkraut for New Years, and that helped. I also started eating prunes for snacks. Maybe I'm strange, but I actually like them and still eat some almost every day. Anyway, your body will eventually reach a new equilibrium.

Hi, you havn't said what your e juice mix is. If you are vapeing 50PG/50VG you need the extra water intake mentioned. I have the other problem 2-3 times per day instead of once which was normal for me when I was smoking. PG is actually a laxative that is used in Miralax, it is formulated to draw water to the bowel but if you do not have the extra water it can not do it's job. I would say try more non citrus fruit juices like apple or grape. If that doesn't work try Miralax it is easy on the system. I don't know if you drink coffee but an extra cup in the morning with cream also may help fix you up. The best advice I got when I started Vapeing was Vape once sip once. This did wonders for my nerves, but they forgot to tell me it wasn't wine I was suppose to be sipping. Hope everything comes out ok .:D

Hi my e-juice mix is 67PG/33VG.

The three day bowel strike ended this morning I'm happy to inform. :) I drink lots of water, drank some coffee on an empty stomach, ate a prune and voilà: bowel movement!

I'm not there yet though. I hope that my body adjusts to the smoke-free life and finds a new rhytm slowly but surely in the next couple of weeks. But for now I'm relieved. Literally!

Glad to read that I'm not the only one on this forum with the same issue after recently quitting smoking. 1 me - 0 analogues! :)
