Burning behind breastbone definitely sounds like acid reflux. Whether or not vaping could contribute to it, I don't know, but I can tell you that in the first several months after I quit smoking, I had terrible acid reflux. Then it went away. Well, it didn't go away completely because I'd had problems with acid reflux before. But after a few months, my acid reflux went back to "normal".

What flavors are you vaping?

After a lot of trial and error, I've come to find out that some flavors trigger very, very painful acid reflux for me. Especially any tart fruit flavors. Which is a shame, as I really enjoy those kinds of flavors, but it isn't worth the pain. I think that the culprit is malic acid, which is a flavoring additive used for tartness. Some vendors add it, but mostly it is already contained in the flavorings vendors use, so it's usually not possible to get a flavor without it if it's already in the flavoring. It has no effect on me in food, so there must be something specific to vaping it that causes the problem.

Fruit is the worst, but I also get it a bit from coffee and cinnamon/spice flavors. Now I only vape tobacco, vanilla, and some dessert flavors without fruit. I've never tried menthol, assuming that it would be very bad for reflux, but I can't say for sure, other than I'm not willing to risk it...

I was having some bad acid reflux (which I typically don't) and have tried several things to alleviate it in the way I vape. Dropped nic level (helped), changed from tanks to clearomizers (helped, but not sure how/why it would), went from 100% VG to 50pg/50vg (no difference, but I didn't feel as dry in my mouth). I switched to RY4 (was vaping coffee exclusively) and I started to feel better, but I thought that had nothing to do with the juice and more to do with everything else I tried (like dropping nic level). Just went back to coffee (same juice, lower nic, using a clearomizer) and acid reflux is kicking up again. Long story short, if you're having acid reflux issues with vaping, consider changing up your juice as others have suggested here. I love the taste of vaped coffee, but looks like it doesn't love me :-(

LLynn, what exactly is the juice you are vaping? As in PG, VG, flavors, nic level, etc.

What PV are you using, and is it possible you might be swallowing some juice?

IS this acid reflux, as in sour liquid coming into your mouth, or is it just a pain? And is it a sharp pain, a more dull ache like you have smoked too much, or like an air bubble that won't come to the surface?

And is this a new thing, or has it happened in the past, and maybe only when you vape a particular juice?

These details can help figure out what is probably wrong, or at least say what it isn't.
