I've been vaping for about a week. Really enjoy it. Haven't had a single analog. But I'm having bad side effects from both PG and VG.

With PG, I get a sore throat. The first disposable I had with 100%PG made me feel like my throat was closing. I don't believe I have an allergy as I own products with PG and have never had a reaction. Also, I'm not prone to allergies. But I am sensitive to things every so often.

With VG, I get a strange pain in my back. I know, you've never heard of this. It's below my right shoulder. It may or may not affect my breathing, which is to say it doesn't very much. But it's an uncomfortable feeling. It's definitely the vaping, whether or not it's actually the VG - I can't prove. Anyone EVER heard of this?

Sigh.

I'm currently using an ego battery with a mini vivi nova. I love it! I just really want these effects to stop plaguing me. I've tried a 50/50 mix from VV with a mix of both side effects. Mostly the sore throat. When I cross that juice with 100%VG, my back pain surfaces. I'm working on getting other ratios to try.

I've read through many posts on these forums looking for answers. I know some might say I should see a doctor but just try and believe me that I know these effects are from the vaping.

Has anyone pushed through these side effects and ended up a happy vaper? Thanks guys

Edit: also, yes I am drinking plenty of water! :)

It could be side effects from quitting/reducing cigarettes. BTW, there is PG and VG in cigarettes. Not that you can't be allergic, but it's a small percentage that have an actual allergy to either. Less than 10%. Some people can be sensitive to either ingredient or some flavoring.

I used lots of throat lozenges and the dry throat thing did go away. I can't vape high VG because I do get a heavy feeling in my chest. At least I did when I started vaping. Could have been that or quitting/detoxing from all the crap in cigarettes.

If it continues you could get some unflavored PG liquid and unflavored VG and see which you do better with.

I will preface this by saying I am not a doctor, It sounds like the pg is irritating your throat but that carries the flavor. Look for juice vendors that allow you to change the percentages to 40 pg and 60 vg. The VG probably causes the back pain could simply be gas. I know not a subject that people like to think about. The VG is thicker, you may be trying to draw the vapor in too quickly like you would smoke an analog. Which coil are you using on the vivi nova? You may want to try some of the others to see if this changes the problem with the back pain.

I had chest pain the first few days, I wasn't sure if I should continue, saw my doctor, he wasn't sure but didn't see anything wrong with my heart or lungs. Went to a B and M and they told me I was drawing to hard, showed me the correct way and that changed everything. Happy vapor here.

As far as the sore throat from PG, I experienced the same thing. Basically, it's just something you have to get over - kind of like building the "throat calluses" from analogs. The difference being most of us started easy on analogs because we weren't hooked on the nicotine.

For the back pain, I think Karen may have hit on something. I've been strictly digital for most of a year now, and I still deal with that when I chain vape.

I didn't see mention of dry throat, but I thought I'd mention just in case, that over in the health/safety board they explain that what you exhale is not the vapor, but actually vaporized saliva from your mouth. I've yet to get rid of this and just make sure I drink plenty. I've gone from about 2 quarts over a day at work to 3-4.

Finally, don't let the minor annoyances of your body's "learning curve" discourage you. Think of not wheezing when you lay down at night, not hacking up black/brown/grey crap regularly, and $3 for a bottle of good juice vs $5 for a cheap pack of smokes. Good Luck!

I just hit 8 months. You can get past the side effects. I dealt with lung purge. Insomnia for a month. Bad acne. I feel amazing now but most of all its the middle of winter in mn and i dont have to freeze my buns off to get my nic fix. Xmas parties. Bars. Vaping is one of the best things to ever happen to me.

The only side effects I've noticed is some pimples on my forehead. This went on for about 3 weeks. Oh, the insomnia too, started vaping less around the time I want to sleep. Others have mentioned getting a bottle of low nic or zero nic for night time vaping to fall asleep easier. Keep trying different PG/VG ratios until you find the one that works the best for you. Like another member said, maybe you should try lowering your nic too for less of a throat irritation.

thats definitely a big one. being dehydrated and having less water in the flesh of your throat can increase pain from vaping, more-so at first. Once you've been vaping for a while the throat pain greatly reduces or goes away completely. Goes is a weird word.

When I 1st began vaping, with PG, It felt like a burn. Throat burn. That went away. With VG, it was irritation. The irritation from high VG juices was worse than the throat burn from PG and VG also messed with my chest. So I stopped using the 100% VG juice I had gotten and began using higher PG juices. After a while, the PG burn goes away almost completely or it blends into a nice, fast, hit/kick but it doesn't linger like the high VG juice irritation did. So now I use 80/20 pg/vg or 70/30 pg/vg or even 50/50 is fine... Even 100% VG is okay every once in a while now. (but it doesn't taste the way I'd like it to)

So your gonna have to find out if its the PG or the VG by using juices heavy in each. Then by process of elimination, cut out the juice that bothers you the most.

Just my :2c:
I started vaping with juices available locally - TakeAir, Joyetech and HG.
TakAir juices provide strong flavor, but all give me soar throat. Not really even that, it's like I'm sick... can't swallow, kept me at nights and few times got me out of bed... I thought I was sick till I tried another juice and all these symptoms gone away...
It was joyetech. It didn't give me side effects, but it's just tasteless crap... tried HG and almost puked... I think they use 98% alcohol instead of PG/VG in their juices...

Today I got Alice in Vapeland juices...well, I feel great. I taste great (epic) taste... Now vaping seems perfect to me!

There were some other juices too, just don't want to make an essay from post, but yes, bad juices give side effects.

Yup, surprised that you haven't yet had any of these, just wait until the tar balls come up...they are most crunchy in the morning hours.

Oh the tarballs, I forgot about them and the hate they bring the system. This usually lasts a while, depending on how long you smoked, but are a good thing even if they make you feel bad. Work through it and within a month you will probably feel better than ever.

have not read all comments, so may have already been mentioned, but it is possible that you are using too high a level of nicotine? I found that I vaped more in the first few weeks, trying to kick those cigarette cravings, and the intake was too much for me. are you getting stomach aches (sometimes just sour stomach), headaches, etc? If yes, try a lower nic level. also, try holding vape in your mouth for a few secs before inhaling (if you do inhale). Most nic intake seems to be in the mouth anyway! After 6 mos, I now inhale, hold in mouth for about 3 secs, then inhale. about half the time I vape, hold in mouth for about 3 secs, then dont inhale and just exhale through nose. I get way more flavor when doing the 2nd method, but it still feel foreign to me due to 27 yrs of smoking! My advice would be to experiment with inhalation techniques while waiting for lower nic level juices :)

the sore throat, mouth irritation ( for me anyways ) is all PG. I find that the thinner juices tend to spittle a little and irritate my throat and mouth. With the back and shoulder pain, I was thinking that it may have something to do with the way yOu are holding your PV? Or even the tenseness of your shoulders because you are craving the nicotine? I have a long history of back, neck and shoulder issues, so every time. I do something slightly different, I tend to pay the price physically. Since the VG juice has a higher viscosity, you have to hit it a little differently... Longer, slower... Maybe that is causing your issues?
