Signs of a Coil Failure?

Hi there, I am using a TDC Clearomizer, been told to expect about 2 weeks life from it. (Iclear16) Coming up on 2 weeks now, and everything seems fine. Do they start to lose performance, or just quit? I have replacement coils at the ready, but want to know when should i replace the coil? What signals will I detect from my unit that the coil is done? thanks in advance

Hi

This isn't a black and white kind of thing. You replace a coil when you are no longer happy with the performance.

As you use a clearo the coil and wick get crudded up with flavoring components that don't turn into vapor. As you move further along that build up starts to produce some nasty harshness as it's, in effect, being burned off while the coil is still trying to produce vapor at the same time. Consequently the vapor production drops off over time while things can taste increasingly harsh.

There is no set rule because different liquids do this faster - or slower - than others. In general the darker and sweeter your liquid is the faster your coil and wick get crudded up. I've run an almost clear Cuban flavor in a Kanger BCC clearo for over two weeks before I had to replace the coil. But something like a Chocolate Fudge Brownie? You might be lucky to get two days use out of a coil with a flavor like that before the coil and wick are a real mess.

So - when the vapor production drops off and things start tasting harsh/burnt that's when its time to move on.

When I still used clearomizers, I actually didn't have even one coil fail on me. Sure, at some point I would get a nasty flavour, but a cleaning and dry burn always seemed to clear that up. So, coils can certainly last longer than two weeks.

Bottom coils for my Silver Bullet last me 2-4 weeks. I just keep cleaning/dry burning them.

I know this is waay OT, but, chocolate fudge brownie? That sounds nummy. Haven't tasted a decent chocolate YET....

May be yummy, but it clogs coils very fast as "most" chocolate flavor are kinda thick. I used to get thick/dark tobacco flavors from madvapes (De-Kang brand). And those liquids were very dark and thick. Thier RY-4 was even dark and thick. I'm so glad I found a vendor that makes RY-4 perfectly for my taste, and its a nice very light yellow looking liquid. I no longer buy my liquids from madvapes since they totally discontued the De-kang line of liquid. Im so happy they did thow in hindsite I found a 1000x better RY-4 and alot cheaper :)

I did buy some disgusting chocolate from a newsstand, and it polished off one of my disposable tanks in like an hour. (Did have some miles on it, though)

The Vapor Room has one - but other places carry this flavor too. TVR also has a Dutch Chocolate Mint that is really good. (Think thin mints cookies...) They are really good flavors there - they don't taste like chemical or "off" chocolate.
