The aftertaste is most likely from a coating that is needed during production (it is "Schlichte" in German, but dictionaries don't give me anything fitting in English - maybe black wash?). It is not harmful, but tastes strange. It is often just gypsum in water.

You can burn that off by treating the wick in a blue flame (gas stove, blow torch, chef's torch for creme brulee) until it glows orange. I do that with all silica wick I am using for vaping.

Yum Yum, thats the best part. Seriously for me the first 5 hits of a fresh silica wick taste the best.

I know I'm weird, but I think thats proof something is their because it goes away pretty quick.

Honestly I think its what you get used to that starts to taste good then everything else tastes weird after ......

Don't believe me ? Remember jones'n for a cig and then saying oooh that tastes good when you finally hit one ??

We all know that cigs do not taste good in any universe .... No one in history ever blew out their first drag of a cig and said wow that tastes great. :D
