Before I begin, I would like to thank you all for being so helpful when I decided to try vaping. From the day my 510 starter kit arrived two months ago, I have not had a cigarette. And I feel great :) However, I think I need a little upgrade. I want something like the Silver Bullet. I've read and watched some great reviews on this product (especially at 6V) so I thought this was it and went to AltSmoke.com to purchase but apparently it wasn't recommended to be used at 6V. I don't want to use a device in a way it was not meant to be used. So I thought I should come on ECF for help. What PV would you recommend?

I'm in the same boat your in so I might as well get on board with your thread I'm using the 510 and I'm soon to upgrade to a big battery/box mod. I see that madvapes has a roughstack v2 which is only 3.7v but has also has a long version if you want more power. I personally enjoy the fact that it's like a silver bullet but stealth like 2xaa box mod. Or janty stick size. The only other option I might opt for would be a REO mini except that they're just a long wait and the others are ready to buy. Although looking at the mini now it's so beautiful it's probably worth the wait. I might consider getting the roughstack for now and getting in line for a REO. Does anyone have any suggestions? How about the e-power ego style with a replaceable battery? That looks ok too.

Both the Silver Bullet and the Maxi Roughstack will do 6v equally well. The manufacturer of the SB doesn't recommend using it at 6v for liability reasons while Madvapes takes a less cautious approach. The reason Altsmoke doesn't recommend it is that when you stack batteries, as you're required to do to obtain 6v, the chance of battery failure increases. Li-ion batteries when used improperly can explode. The use of unprotected batteries in either device can dramatically increase the potential for catastrophic failure. This is the scenario that Altsmoke is trying to avoid by not recommending the use of their device for anything other than 3.7v.

As to which one to recommend, it depends. The Maxi Roughstack is cheaper, and it works. The Silver Bullet is built much better. The fit and finish is excellent, while the Roughstack is a bit more crude. There are two main drawbacks to the Roughstack that I've found. First if you get leakage from your atomizer, liquid can get inside the Roughstack. Second the inside diameter of the tube is smaller than on the Silver Bullet. Some 18650 batteries will not fit for this reason. I have 3000mah 18650 Ultrafire batteries for use in the Roughstack and they work. I also have some 2600mah Ultrafire high drain 18650's for use in the SB. They don't fit in the Roughstack because they're slightly larger in diameter. I purchased the Roughstack before I knew the difference between batteries. The 3000mah batteries are low drain, while the 2600mah batt's are high drain. The difference in performance is quite noticeable. The high drain's produce more vapor and do so more quickly. This is because the batteries were designed to release energy more quickly.

Given a choice between the two, the Silver Bullet wins hands down. I used the Maxi Roughstack as my primary device for months. As soon as I received my Silver Bullet the Maxi Roughstack fell to backup duty. I haven't used it since.

Thanks for a helpful explanation cskent. I just ordered an SB last week and a high drain 1500 mah 18650 battery to go with it. At which ohm would you recommend for a low res atty? And could you also recommend a brand of protected 3v CR123a's? All the ones i've seen so far are unprotected, and if they are, they are at 3.6v. Would these be safe to use in the SB? Not sure about vaping at 7.2v though.

Edit: Sorry to hijack your thread! To stay on topic, I have heard good things about the Silver Bullet which is why i ordered it as my first mod. The only negative i've heard so far is that there is no vent hole at the bottom which is probably another reason why altsmoke does not recommend 6v. Once i get it, i'll let you know how it goes.

Using the high drain 18650 Ultrafire's I'm getting 4.18v fresh off the charger. When I tried using 1.5 ohm atty's it was burning my juice. I went to 1.7 ohm and it doesn't burn as easily but you have to take short drags. 2.0 ohms is about perfect for me, but I only had a couple of LR 2.0's so it's time to reorder. For 6v try these Madvapes Ultrafire-Protected-16340RCR123A-30-V-Li-Ion, they're protected so they should be safe to use. They don't seem to sell the ones I got anymore. I haven't tried 7.4v, actually I didn't like 6v much and just went back to 3.7v with LR's. It's much easier to control in my experience. At 6v I was using 3.5 ohm atty's. Another disadvantage of stacking batt's in either device is that you don't get the long runtimes that the 18650 offers. You're limited to about 800mah, but they seem to drain a lot quicker than you'd expect for some reason.

If I were to buy 18650's again I'd probably invest in a set of AW 2900mah batt's. From what I've read they're the best, althoough they're quite expensive. I've been happy with the Altsmoke Ultrafire 2600mah high drain's that I'm using though, and the price is certainly right. I'm getting more than a day on a charge with them. And they're much better than the low drain Ultrafire's I got for the Roughstack.

Hold out for the REO Mini. 400 will be available in the next batch 2-3 weeks out, and it's worth it! :)

Im a puresmoker fanboy... Check out the prodigy v3.1. Same device can be used as a true 3.7 device OR a 6v device. Its gorgeous and hasn't given me any trouble in the 2 weeks I've been using it. Its solid, stainless steel, and all mechanical...

Just my opinion, but I've decided im a 6v vaper w/ Ikenvape 3.5 ohm attys. 3.7v with low-resistance is really nice too...

+1

But if your the type that hates box mods then its really unfortunate because the REO is the best. Let be said I do have a open mind to those that think differently than me so if you can wait and dont mind being on a waiting list then this maybe for you...http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-cigarette-suppliers-forum/171862-introduction-thread-jcmodtronics-products-coming-soon.html

You can get the Sparkplug SP2 for $29.99 as a kit. It includes the thermo tube... an extension tube that allows it to take 2 CR123s... for 6v vaping (with 2 3v CR123s). The kit itself comes with 2 3.7V CR123As, so you would need to get 2 3.0v batteries for 6v vaping. There are relatively inexpensive, and the starter kit is really a great deal.

You can find it at SparkPlugforSmokers.com. I have no affilation other than as a customer.

Here's a link showing a nice comparison of mod sizes. This guy bought a high mah 3.7v battery for the thermo, which is my plan as well.
