I've had my SB for over a year now, but went back to analogs for the past 9 months. Now that I'm back to using it and trying to quit smoking, I realize what led me back to the dark side to begin with: throat hit. I've used at least a dozen different flavors of juice from different manufacturers and the best throat hit so far was from a menthol juice. But, I think the problem is the voltage, and want to try increasing it on my SB.

So, for all of you running HV:

1. What's the difference in throat hit between 5v and 6v? (At 3.7v it just feels like I'm breathing a cool fog. Definitely not the same sensation I crave.)
2. I've considered getting a 510 passthrough (it runs at 5v right?) to see if 5v provides enough throat hit. But, I'd rather make an educated choice rather than throwing money that I dont have around.
3. From what I've gathered, I'm not supposed to use LR attys with HV, correct?
4. Are the 510 attys able to handle HV as well as others? If not, what would you recommend?

I'm more concerned with throat hit at this point than I am with flavor, unless it tastes burnt of course. If throat hit is the same at 5v and 6v, then obviously taste would make the difference, but it's not a primary concern.

I find the difference in TH between 3.7v and 5v much more noticable than the the difference between 5v and 6v.

2. I've considered getting a 510 passthrough (it runs at 5v right?) to see if 5v provides enough throat hit. But, I'd rather make an educated choice rather than throwing money that I dont have around.
It will only run at 5v if you use a 2A AC->USB adapter. Running the PT off your 500mA computer USB port won't get you a 5v vape.

3. From what I've gathered, I'm not supposed to use LR attys with HV, correct?
Correct...Although it really depends on your interpretation of what LR and HV is. I use 1.7ohm LR attys at 5v but I won't use them at 6v.

4. Are the 510 attys able to handle HV as well as others? If not, what would you recommend?
I only buy Joye 510's. The SR(2.3ohm) work great for me at 5v. At 6v, I only use HR(3.2ohm) attys when using batteries with a fresh charge. After an hour of vaping at 6v, I have no problem throwing a SR 2.3ohm atty on.

I'm more concerned with throat hit at this point than I am with flavor, unless it tastes burnt of course. If throat hit is the same at 5v and 6v, then obviously taste would make the difference, but it's not a primary concern.

Hope this helps.

How does it stack up to 5V?
Also, how long do the 2 rcr132a's last compared to the single 18650?

Thanks for the reply.

Under load you're vaping around 5.5 volts. It's quite amazing. The vapor is warm, flavor is great, and TH rocks. The 2 rcrs last a good 6 hours before a noticeable drop off. You trade less battery life for a much more intense vape.

Do you prefer it to 5v? Do you know how batt life for the 5v NiMH is?
I've been leaning toward 6v, and with 6 hour's use before noticeable dropoff, I may just go that way.
Also, do you notice any flavor difference at 6v over the 3.7v?

I like the 4.8 volt NiMH batts, I have a couple of those. However, under load they're around 4.4ish volts. Using 1.5 ohm dual coil cartos I get around 6 hours before I notice a drop off. So, they last around the time 2 rcrs do. I prefer 6 volts with the dual coil cartos, they really shine at HV.

Different flavors come out at 6 volts, especially with tobacco flavors. I use my 3.7 volt AW IMR batts when I need lots of battery life, however I use 1.7 ohm Smoktech single coil cartos at 3.7 volt (and with the 4.8 volts batts too). I def prefer 6 volts.

I get my Tenergy 3 volt Lifepo4 batteries at Clouds of Vapor

I get my 1.5 ohm dual coil cartos and 1.7 ohm single coil cartos at Crystal Clear Vaping (great deal and free shipping)

I just took a look at those double coil cartos and they appear to be cartomizers. That's what I used when I first started over a year ago and moved away from when I got the SB because they're such a PITA to refill. Granted, I wasn't using the ones you referred to, but I went through way too many and it cost too much to keep up with. How are these compared to other cartos?

Have you tried a ce2 tank? Most of the tanks I've seen are the boge type. I've read that the ce2 is hit and miss, but I've also read nothing but rave reviews for the MAP tank (which uses ce2). Kind of hard to tell the forest for the trees.

No, I haven't tried a ce2 tank. I've read a bunch of reviews and it just seems too fiddly for me. I love the carto tanks (DC MAP, Big Daddy Tank, Liquidnator, M1A1 Buzz Tank, etc.), they are so simple and yet so very effective.

I've tried the J Tank which uses regular Cartos, the MAP Tank with CE2 and the MAP Dual Coil Carto and I much prefer the tank with Dual Coil. Flavor is better, leaking is not an issue as it is with CE2 and you don't have to worry about laying it down to put in in a carrying case because it doesn't leak (at least I haven't had an issue with my 6 DC Tanks).
