I was thinking earlier about the similarities between fishing and vaping.
1. The mod is the fishing pole
2. The atty is the fishing line
3. The coil is the lure, fly or bait
4. Some mods are more like fishing lures, the ones designed to attract a buyer not the fish.

Must be a few other fisherfolk on here so chime in if so inclined.

I'm a saltwater kinda guy. I like blue water and green water both. Fun to hang a tarpon, and fun to pole a flat-bottom boat back into the salt grass and hook a tailing redfish in ankle-deep water. But I am also a heavy tackle kind of guy. My smallest reel is a Penn International Baitcast 965, which is no bigger than the winch on the boat trailer, lol. I don't really understand the fresh-water guys. I see the happy, smiling pictures with 5 or 6 dozen perch and I wonder. I use bait bigger than those fish. So I really don't have a lot of vape comparisons as, in my case, the mod would be powered by a 12kW generator and I have never seen one of those.

Having done both, the experience of freshwater fishing is quite different. Much more relaxed. Also there are the specialized things like bow fishing and fly fishing which bear little resemblance to almost anything else . In the great scheme of things sport fishing in general is a lousy way to acquire food. It’s aboutthe experience not the net weight of fish.

Oh, definitely. I'm pretty good at it, but I'd starve if I had to earn a living fishing; or at least I would if I used my current tackle. But that's why we also have nets. And explosives.

Fresh water river fishing for salmon is my favorite. Caught a nice 12/15 pound coho in late August, took about 45 minutes to land, what a fighter, I was tired after but what a rush. If I knew how to post a photo....
What I get a kick out of is the fly fishers with gear worth more than my car and clothes better than my "Sunday Best".
Oh well whatever floats your boat

Had the experience once, and it was a blast. A salmon is a lot of fish. I did have a hard time getting used to holding the rod in the wrong hand, and I can't get but two or three pounds of drag pinching a fly line between my thumb and finger...

You nailed that, I hate mornings until I have 2 or 3 cups of coffee and chain vape a few Mls but when the Salmon are running seems I have no problem getting out of my tent at 4 a.m., downing a cup of coffee and hiking a hour to escape the crowds. Always a great time whether I catch anything or not. No grizzlies here on Vancouver Island but lots of Black Bears got some great video of bear fishing right across the river from me then swimming across. Needless to say had to stop filming and fishing n move down the river.

My favorite for inshore fighting is trying to land an alligator gar. 5ft plus well over 80 lbs of muscle and armor plating! The last one i pulled in broke the shaft of my reel so I had to do it by hand with a helper. Line sliced through 2 fingers clean but I still got him out the water!

Wow.. Nice fish. Are they good eating?
All white meat. They are a small pain to get the plating split. But once you know how to do it then it doesnt take long. We make gar balls primarily with them. The texture is a bit like veal so they hold up nicely to any type of cooking method.

Vaping is a lot like fishing. I used the analogy a week or two ago. Get a pole and some bait, go to a shore and you'll probably catch fish. It's when you want a certain kind of fish that things can get complicated. So, there's vaping, and there's vaping with a dual coil, 26awg SS @ 8 wraps, 3.17mm ID with temperature control and 75/25 VG/PG.

We may raid a reef or two for Snapper in season. I held the Alabama state record for Amberjack for all of one day. My 102 pounder was topped the following evening by a 104 pounder.

Right now, Redfish and Specks are finishing their fall spawning run. Even the newbie with a cane pole and a hunk of dead shrimp is landing the limit here.

Dude... don't ask him that!

He's from Louisiana. They eat critters most people call an exterminator for.

I've had alligator jerky, and it was the best jerky I've ever eaten, seriously.

I'm not a fishing person, and the only way I'd get anywhere is with well placed sticks of dynamite... Like, I'm not patient. :) I did used to catch crabs with my dad every summer and it was a lot of fun, and some great eating. Those things are tricky though! But nothing like catching a gator though if one showed up here, I'd probably get the husband to shoot it an cook it up immediately! Something that terrifying looking has to be delicious.

I've made the comparison before.
Most of us can have a perfectly satisfying experience with off the shelf hardware from Walmart.
Other people are into high end rods/reels, or tying their own flies, or fancy fishing boats, or whatever.
I tend to split the difference.
I buy the best hardware I can afford.
Not always top end, but always with an eye on quality.
