Doesn't really work the way you would think. A 1.5ohm DCC has two 3ohm coils. Charge life is measured in mAh (amps), and a 1.5ohm carto will draw the same amperage regardles of how many coils it has. However only half of the total will be used by each 3ohm coil. So a 1.5ohm DCC will not be as hot at a given voltage as a 1.5ohm SCC, but will produce a larger volum of vapor.

So you have to set the voltage higher to get the heat, not more vapor.

and yes they do tend to drain the battery soon. its less noticeable the higher mah rating your battery is. but on a twist it would be more noticeable then a mod with say 1600 or 2000 mah batteries

Not really true, the reason it will drain your bat faster is because you wouldn't be running a single coil carto of the same resistance at as high a voltage.

I started out using Smoktek dual coils in all of my carto tanks on two 3.7v big battery mods, basically because that is what the tanks came supplied with. It seemed when it was time to order replacements the natural thing to do was to get the same thing. However, when I thought about it more and more, I had to admit that a lot of the cartos developed a burnt taste and had to be replaced prematurely.

I tried to do some research here and on YouTube, but all the info seemed to be very subjective, and not particularly scientific. Some people said dual coils drain your battery faster w/o providing an appreciable increase of vapor production over a single coil. I also read claims that to truly benefit from a dual coil, it requires at least 4.8v.

Hard to know what to believe as fact or fiction, I decided to try some single coil Smokteks in the same resistance ohm that I was using in the dual coil Smokteks. I changed all of my several tanks out with a fresh single coil.

It's been about a month now. Over that time I've been extremely pleased with the single coils, much prefering them over the dual coils that I had used before. I've noticed arguably the same if not MORE vapor production, definitely a moderate increase of battery duration between charges, and best of all no burnt taste.

So, in my experience, I've experienced more positive benefits by using single coils than the previously used dual coils.

On a VV system you do eat a battery faster, mainly because you will run a DC at a higher voltage than a SC.

If you run a SC 1.5 ohm, the battery and juice "see" a 1.5 ohm coil.

If you run a DC 1.5 ohm the battery "sees" a 1.5 ohm coil, but the juice "sees" a 3 ohm, which requires more voltage to find that sweet spot.

With a fixed voltage system, ohm for ohm, it's about the same. The big difference is that you trade vapor temp for vapor volume. DC gives you more volume with a lower vapor temp.

I've experienced less battery life using dual coil cartomizers (SmokTech 1.5ohms) in comparison to Boge LR cartos (at ~2.0 ohms) running both on en ego-t 650mah battery.

While the vapor production and flavor (in my opinion) were better on the SmokTech cartomizers, the Boge cartomizers tended to drain the battery less and required less refilling (the dual coils tended to burn through juice way much faster).

I agree 100% and couldn't have said it any better. I also went through the exact scenario as you and through trial and error have found, for me, single coil 2.0 and even more so the 1.7 really shine on my 3.7 Don and Kgo.

I've used dual coils (boge and smoketech) I find that they do run the battery harder (thus less time on a single charge) using eGos and kGos. Even my LT. I have tried with the DCs with the tank feeder system (carto in a tube full of juice) and also just plain. Thing with dual coils, aside from the seemingly shortened battery life (real or imagined, I'm not sure...but for me it was real) I found I did NOT like what I considered excessive heat with the dual coils. The cartos alone would get very warm...even hot. And the juice would then seem to start leaking and oozing out the bottom all over my battery post. I was not using VV then (except for the LT) and it kept happening. Sometimes the juice would literally DUMP out the bottom! I used 1.5 ohm dc on the eGos and kGos. Switched to single coil...MUCH BETTER!!!! I got just as much vapor without the extreme heat. I have dual coils still...don't use DCTs anymore, but do have some EMDCCs...and they drive me a bit nuts. I find I have to set my VV devices (I have more now) pretty low to keep the cartomizer from toasting and burning my fingers...and burning my juice.

I don't think I'll be buying more. I am much happier now with something like the Smoke Tech eGo Mega single coil cartomizers. I have both 1.7 & 2ohm (for general use) and 3ohm for when I go higher voltage on my kGo VV, LT, or Twist.
