For TC to work well, the coil(s) that you use must register well with your mod.

Nickel is by far the easiest TC metal, as it's TCR is the largest, but you have to ensure that you only use TC with it as it can oxidize easily and if it does, it is a health hazard.

TI is another, but the oxidation is worse, so I tend to not to recommend it, as also while some swear by it, I find it has a strong metallic taste.

The best choice is Stainless Steel, the most common being 316L. Part of the reason it's great, is that it can be used in both TC and regular wattage mode.

The one thing about SS, is that you do need a certain metal mass for it to register well as it's TCR is fairly low, so I recommend decent sized coils, 0.3 and up. The difference from lower isn't that noticeable with appropriate wattage and a decent mod anyways. If you go for a single coil, please be aware that you do have to make a fairly large coil, as a small one will not register very well on most mods, and I've build anywhere from 0.3 to 0.9 coils (both in single and dual, using various gauges, my favourite being 26 at this point), and the experience have been quite great.

See my blog for more information, I have one post dedicated to TC coil building and another to explain TC and how it works.
