I was raised in apartheid South Africa. We used to say we had three freedoms...1) The Freedom to think what we wanted... as long as it was what they told us to think. 2) The freedom of speech...as long as we said what they told us to say. And 3) The Freedom from freedom.

When I finally became a US citizen, I truly felt free.

Freedom: What it means to me...
this is a very hard question to answer ... :glare:

when I think about "freedom & all the freedoms "
we are ALL allowed here in the U.S.
... my thoughts seem to all circle back around to
the same basic point... which is "CHOICE"
we all have the freedom of choice.... to choose for ourselves

....whatever "that choice" may be .........

As kid, Independence day was parades, bbqs, and fireworks. As an adult, I learned both sides of my family came over in the 1600's. Reading about my ancestors trials and difficulty gave me an incredible sense of pride to be an American and decended from those who fought valiantly for the freedom we enjoy today. Through the festivities may we never forget or take for granted that freedom does not come free.

That every child has the same chance as the others, that things that are outside of their control on the day of their birth will not hold them down to reaching their full potential.
Unfortunately, we dont have this yet.

Freedom means to me...

Well, after giving it some thought, it's the pure ideal to be able to do what I want, whenever I want, to whoever I want, whereever I want... pending that it's legal of course. Being able to watch people be themselves, or choicing what they want to do, even if I disagree or even downright hate what they're doing (ie, Westboro Baptist Church... yeah,) I'm glad that they at least have the Freedom to do such things.

Happy Days.

quick edit: I very much like the rules sk. See you tommorrow at 7:05pm.

About the rules... since I started the contest kinda late in the day yesterday, I was trying to make it easy on everyone by not having to wait exactly 24hrs. before you can enter again... just so long as you only do it ONCE each day...

For example: If you entered at 2pm on one day, you could enter at 10am the next day if you wanted to... but not again until after Midnight each day.
So if that has all of you totally confused  I apologize, Do it however you wish... as long as it is only once a day... LOL!!

I am just tickled to see such a great response on the 1st day, and I am really enjoying reading all of your comments!! We still have almost 2 wks. to go, so there is plenty of time to get more entries in... t09063.gif

sk,
Freedom for me, means I can believe in whatever conspiracy theory I want. I can believe in the depths of my soul that all the major politicians are lizard people ruling over their minions (us). I can believe that the masons have determined the past 20+ presidents (except Kennedy, and you see what they did to him). I can believe that all the moon landings were staged from Hollywood and Nevada. I can believe all this stuff (if I choose) and no one will lock me up.

In fact, I can scream these truths to the masses on a sidewalk in my city, and people will give me their loose change.

edit: see you again at 12:01

One of my best friend's son is in the Airforce and he has been in Korea and Japan for the last eight years. To think so many of our young people are fighting for our freedom and protecting us is awe inspiring. So Freedom is very precious to me and means my son will grow up in a great country with the chance to be anything he puts his mind to!
