SLB DES901 Question

I have recently purchased this unit to aide me in quitting smoking however not necessarily nicotine. So far I have had great success and cut down from 1.5-3 packs a day to maybe 5 smokes in just under 2 weeks. However I have run into 2 issues with my e cig that I was hoping a few vets maybe able to answer and point me in the correct direction.

1. I seem to have an issue with the atomizer only lasting like a week or so before clogging up. I was wondering if there is a method I can use to lengthen the amount of time that these atomizers last. I have found a way to reuse the atomizers by boiling them and then priming them (thats what i call it.) However to boil and reprime them ever week seems like a bit of a hassle which is why I am asking this question.

2. It seems there is a lot of waste fluid with these tips. They tend to drain to the middle or lower half of the tip and are unable to be vaped out of the tip. Is there a method or certain way to use these without so much waste fluid?

I'm def a newbie so any help would be great even suggestions to mods or other e cigs that would be better for me to use. I'm very handy and with good direction I can do anything needed to make these work better if possible.

Also so you have the full info I think you'd call me a heavy user, I actually am really starting to enjoy the e cig so I tend to use it almost as frequently as I would smoke real cigs. I dont know what other info you'd need but just ask and I'll be more then happy to answer for any help i can get !!!!

Here's my response to your two questions:

1. I don't believe in boiling, dry burning, or washing atomizers. Kristin's Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Your 510 tutorial provides the foundation for effective continued use of any atomizer-based e-cig, including the 901. Kristin advises to:

…blow out your atomizer...Simply place your mouth over the threaded end and blow hard [and steadily] onto a paper towel until no more liquid comes out.​

Afterwards, reprime the atty with 3 drops of e-liquid, pop a topped off cartridge back in, and vape. Eventually, you will have to replace the atomizer as it accumulates more and more unremovable gunk. Along with e-liquid, it's part of the ongoing cost of vaping: a heck of a lot cheaper than smoking.


2. Unfortunately, virtually all cartridges right out of the box are not as effective as many of us would like in delivering juice to the atomizer. Most vapers make up for this in one of three ways:

a. Bypassing the cartridge and dripping 2-4 drops of juice directly onto the atomizer coil (just like when priming a new atomizer). Dripping gives you direct and precise control ... although it does require more frequent attention (analogous to lighting up an analog cigarette). It is the simplest method and requires no advance preparation. Therefore, it is the one that lazy Don prefers. I just use the mouthpiece after yanking out the cartridge material (or use that empty mouthpiece that came with the atty). This works very well when sitting at my desk at home. Its downside is that dripping is awkward to do when out and about, especially when driving.​

b. Modifying the cartridge filling. At some point, you’re going to want to replace that material in the cart, either with the same type of polyfill … or with other material. Fellow veteran, Hellen A. Handbasket outlined most of them in this post. [She references the 510, but just like kristin's post, her suggestions are equally applicable to the 901.]​

c. Using cartomizers (Kr8 or 510), which, since they integrate the cartridge and the atomizer, are quite effective. This will entail using a different model of battery. I strongly recommend the Kr8: it is the most powerful non-mod battery and it can also be used with your 901 atomizers. See this post for the many sources of Kr8 batteries and cartomizers.​
