I had some juices that were this way recently. I was also slightly confused as to what you to do in the steeping process. After a lot of reading. I steeped with the cap off for a few days, put the cap back on and left for another day or two. The ones I've tried are much better. I had a spare little cooler so I decided it was going to be my juice storage box lol. I keep it in my closet close to the AC vent....keeps it nice and cool.

I think you are probably going to see the best results with the perfumey taste by leaving the cap off for a couple of days. Shake occasionally (people say to shake really vigorously and I do that). Certain vendors' juices are known for these perfumey/chemical tastes and I find a couple of days of cap off will dissipate that taste. A longer period, with cap on or off lets the flavors mellow and blend, which is kind of a different issue in my mind.

What will happen if I do leave the tops off?

You can lose flavor. Leaving the caps on allows the most volatile of the compounds to saturate the air in the bottle, without letting a lot of the other flavors escape. It also limits the amount of oxygen that comes in contact with the juice (which will break down many flavor molecules).

If you leave the bottle open, you are not only providing continuous exposure to air, you're also letting all the volatile compounds (including flavors) to evaporate non-preferentially.

I am not sold on "steeping" as it is usually done with tea, coffee and other organic plant life. It is a process of extracting essential oils out. What is there to steep in a liquid with PG/VG, L Nicotine and a flavoring, usually alcohol based. tobacco extractions are done in the making of the juices. Now it may be that flavors need to meld together over a given time frame, but this is not steeping, more like "aging".

As far as a fruit flavor goes, chances are it is alcohol based and leaving the cap off can allow the alcohol to evaporate and in doing so either cause the flavor to drop or increase, increase as in a concentrated flavor would be. Or evaporate taking some of the flavor along with it.

In my experience a liquid that has a perfume like taste never has been remedied, not saying it cannot be just I have never had any luck getting rid of it....I have a bottle that is 18 months old, still has the taste of Eu de Cologne.....ok well... Old Spice but I like to live the high life:laugh:
