Ok folks. My order finally arrived I have been dripping thoughtfully for a couple hours. Below is my original order that I posted ten days ago followed by my initial impressions. All are 50/50 and 8mg nic. I usually vape 12mg but am currently stepping it down. All were tested in a HH357 long barrel 2ohm dripping atomizer at 3.7-4.2v. I probably tried too many to give detailed descriptions but I'm a "first impression" kind of guy in all aspects of life, including juice, so here ya go.. "I'll steep them for a week before trying them" Yeah, I failed as usual..
Law Man:
First impression. Hard to describe really. I will steep this one for a week and I think it may come together. Somewhat rich creamy light milk chocolate with a tobacco note. Didn't blow me away but I'm sure it will go in a tank in another week for more than just a taste vape. I can tell it will develop but for all those flavors I'm only getting three at the moment. There is a waxy feel and off taste to it on the exhale.
Castle Short:
(This one went straight into a tank based on prior recommendations) I am sitting here with two identical setups. Nautilus BVC tanks on IStick 30's at 12 watts. One with Castle Short, the other with genuine Castle Long Reserve 2014 edition. I am completely blown away at how close he got this. The "short" lacks the complexity and has a little heavier feeling base. The "Long" has a slightly better throat hit at slightly lower nic, and a more prominent bourbon presence but darn it, the Short is one heck of a lot closer than I expected. Are they the same? No. Are they close? Darned close! Well done Slim!
RY4 + Pistachio:
Ok.. This is my own combo and I claim responsibility. I am a fan of Pistachio RY4 from Charlie Noble but it is Max VG and therefore very light in flavor and not ideal in tanks. This was my weak attempt to find something similar that had a little more gusto. I asked Slim to ad Pistachio or Pistachio pudding, his choice, and I would live with it. They went with straight Pistachio. This is unvapable and I doubt that will change but into the steep cabinet it goes. I only tasted straight super strong pine tar mixed with a burnt tire taste. Probably the most offensive vape I've ever tried. I had to dry burn my 357 twice with a hot water wash in between to get rid of the pine smell and taste. What the heck?!! This is in no way to reflect badly on Slim, as this was my idea, but OMG it turned out horrible. Really bummed. I wish I had his unadulterated RY4 for comparison, as I'm a RY4 fan. I suspect the Pistachio. Or could it be pine posing as pistachio? Gag.
Unicorn Milk:
Not bad. About as exciting as all the other Strawberry Cream vapes out there. Light flavor but well balanced. There is a very waxy feel to this one too. I'm gonna steep it and visit it again in a week.
Cherry Balsam Tobacco + Creme La Creme:
Wa wa waaaaa.... Bitter. A definite burning tire taste along with medicinal tasting cherry. Maybe it was the Creme La Creme. Someone mentioned this on the Facebook page. Maybe it's something else. To the steep cabinet..
Caramel Corn:
Yep. Caramel Corn immediately on the inhale. Very buttery too. It's good! Then... Burning tire on the exhale. Hmm. Clean, dry burn, wash, repeat. Nope. Still the same. To the steep cabinet.. Jeez..
Blacky Cigar:
A good Black and Mild right out of the gate. I've had a few versions of this flavor (juice and the real cigar) and this is quite accurate. But again, followed by a waxy feel and that burnt rubber taste. This is also the second harshest in the bunch. I'm noticing a trend here. To the steep cabinet..
Cotton Candy:
Very, very light cotton candy evenly balanced with, you guessed it, wax and rubber. Ok, can there be something wrong with my trusty HH357, the trusted tasting atomizer of well known reviewers? So.. I grabbed a K1 mini tank and a fresh BVC coil. No change. Just as bad. Cleaned it out and tried the Blacky Cigar. Same.. How can you screw up cotton candy?
Ok, FREEBIES!
Slim's was nice enough to throw in three 10ml bottles as a bonus. Extremely generous! All are zero nic, something I normally would toss, as I typically hate zero nic. I insist on throat hit, being an old school tootle puffer type. But you know, I'm glad I tried all three because something interesting happened. They are quite good! Hmm..
Drunken Turtle:
I would typically never order this but I was pleasantly surprised. A tasty but not cloyingly sweet chocolate Creme vape with a touch of caramel. Still a little waxy but clean on the finish. I can detect a slight note of booze which works with the overall profile, creating the Kahlua note. Probably the same ingredient used in "Short". I'll use this as a before bed vape since its zero nic. Not bad at all and I am surprised I like it.
Peach Tobacco:
I don't care for peach vapes but I gave it a shot, mainly to get to the tobacco. Guess what? This is a good vape. Mild ripe peach. Not the candied kind. The tobacco is extremely nice. I'd say a smooth Cavendish/Virginia blend. Another keeper for bedtime. I still don't like peach but the smooth tobacco in this one makes it enjoyable.
RedBoro:
Would I have tried this based on the nondescript pic and generic profile on the website? Probably not, and I vape some kind of tobacco flavor 80% of the time. Guess what folks? Here we have ourselves one fine artibacco flavor here. Not even close to its namesake but more a combo of classic "desert" (Camel as imagined by the Chinese in 2009) with a smooth sweet and slightly smoky RY4 finish. Extremely nice. I'm vaping it right now and really enjoying it. It even has a detectable throat hit at zero, which I didn't think was possible, and still finishes silky smooth and semi sweet. Love it! Winner! Who'd a thunk?
Soooo... In closing. I realize these are fresh from the mail but they are also officially one week old. I'm not a steeper and enjoy many juices that don't require it so I don't feel like it's too harsh to critique these (or any other juices) fresh.
My overall thoughts, and I could be wrong..
It's the nicotine that's causing the bad taste and aftertaste present in most of the flavors I received. The zero nic flavors I got as freebies are the only ones that don't have a burning tire-bitter plastic (or is it burning clutch mixed with gear lube) note to them. Even Castle Short has it but not as much as the others. Gotta be the nic. I'll steep most of these. Some for quite a while as I'm in no hurry to try them again soon. If they improve I'll be the first one to admit my early criticism.
I had higher expectations but at the same time, maybe I didn't. I did manage to find a fair CL clone and some darned nice tobacco. At this point I would be hesitant to re-order those nice tobaccos with the nicotine he's using though.
Night all.
