Ok folks. My order finally arrived I have been dripping thoughtfully for a couple hours. Below is my original order that I posted ten days ago followed by my initial impressions. All are 50/50 and 8mg nic. I usually vape 12mg but am currently stepping it down. All were tested in a HH357 long barrel 2ohm dripping atomizer at 3.7-4.2v. I probably tried too many to give detailed descriptions but I'm a "first impression" kind of guy in all aspects of life, including juice, so here ya go.. "I'll steep them for a week before trying them" Yeah, I failed as usual..

Law Man:
First impression. Hard to describe really. I will steep this one for a week and I think it may come together. Somewhat rich creamy light milk chocolate with a tobacco note. Didn't blow me away but I'm sure it will go in a tank in another week for more than just a taste vape. I can tell it will develop but for all those flavors I'm only getting three at the moment. There is a waxy feel and off taste to it on the exhale.

Castle Short:
(This one went straight into a tank based on prior recommendations) I am sitting here with two identical setups. Nautilus BVC tanks on IStick 30's at 12 watts. One with Castle Short, the other with genuine Castle Long Reserve 2014 edition. I am completely blown away at how close he got this. The "short" lacks the complexity and has a little heavier feeling base. The "Long" has a slightly better throat hit at slightly lower nic, and a more prominent bourbon presence but darn it, the Short is one heck of a lot closer than I expected. Are they the same? No. Are they close? Darned close! Well done Slim!

RY4 + Pistachio:
Ok.. This is my own combo and I claim responsibility. I am a fan of Pistachio RY4 from Charlie Noble but it is Max VG and therefore very light in flavor and not ideal in tanks. This was my weak attempt to find something similar that had a little more gusto. I asked Slim to ad Pistachio or Pistachio pudding, his choice, and I would live with it. They went with straight Pistachio. This is unvapable and I doubt that will change but into the steep cabinet it goes. I only tasted straight super strong pine tar mixed with a burnt tire taste. Probably the most offensive vape I've ever tried. I had to dry burn my 357 twice with a hot water wash in between to get rid of the pine smell and taste. What the heck?!! This is in no way to reflect badly on Slim, as this was my idea, but OMG it turned out horrible. Really bummed. I wish I had his unadulterated RY4 for comparison, as I'm a RY4 fan. I suspect the Pistachio. Or could it be pine posing as pistachio? Gag.

Unicorn Milk:
Not bad. About as exciting as all the other Strawberry Cream vapes out there. Light flavor but well balanced. There is a very waxy feel to this one too. I'm gonna steep it and visit it again in a week.

Cherry Balsam Tobacco + Creme La Creme:
Wa wa waaaaa.... Bitter. A definite burning tire taste along with medicinal tasting cherry. Maybe it was the Creme La Creme. Someone mentioned this on the Facebook page. Maybe it's something else. To the steep cabinet..

Caramel Corn:
Yep. Caramel Corn immediately on the inhale. Very buttery too. It's good! Then... Burning tire on the exhale. Hmm. Clean, dry burn, wash, repeat. Nope. Still the same. To the steep cabinet.. Jeez..

Blacky Cigar:
A good Black and Mild right out of the gate. I've had a few versions of this flavor (juice and the real cigar) and this is quite accurate. But again, followed by a waxy feel and that burnt rubber taste. This is also the second harshest in the bunch. I'm noticing a trend here. To the steep cabinet..

Cotton Candy:
Very, very light cotton candy evenly balanced with, you guessed it, wax and rubber. Ok, can there be something wrong with my trusty HH357, the trusted tasting atomizer of well known reviewers? So.. I grabbed a K1 mini tank and a fresh BVC coil. No change. Just as bad. Cleaned it out and tried the Blacky Cigar. Same.. How can you screw up cotton candy?

Ok, FREEBIES!
Slim's was nice enough to throw in three 10ml bottles as a bonus. Extremely generous! All are zero nic, something I normally would toss, as I typically hate zero nic. I insist on throat hit, being an old school tootle puffer type. But you know, I'm glad I tried all three because something interesting happened. They are quite good! Hmm..

Drunken Turtle:
I would typically never order this but I was pleasantly surprised. A tasty but not cloyingly sweet chocolate Creme vape with a touch of caramel. Still a little waxy but clean on the finish. I can detect a slight note of booze which works with the overall profile, creating the Kahlua note. Probably the same ingredient used in "Short". I'll use this as a before bed vape since its zero nic. Not bad at all and I am surprised I like it.

Peach Tobacco:
I don't care for peach vapes but I gave it a shot, mainly to get to the tobacco. Guess what? This is a good vape. Mild ripe peach. Not the candied kind. The tobacco is extremely nice. I'd say a smooth Cavendish/Virginia blend. Another keeper for bedtime. I still don't like peach but the smooth tobacco in this one makes it enjoyable.

RedBoro:
Would I have tried this based on the nondescript pic and generic profile on the website? Probably not, and I vape some kind of tobacco flavor 80% of the time. Guess what folks? Here we have ourselves one fine artibacco flavor here. Not even close to its namesake but more a combo of classic "desert" (Camel as imagined by the Chinese in 2009) with a smooth sweet and slightly smoky RY4 finish. Extremely nice. I'm vaping it right now and really enjoying it. It even has a detectable throat hit at zero, which I didn't think was possible, and still finishes silky smooth and semi sweet. Love it! Winner! Who'd a thunk?

Soooo... In closing. I realize these are fresh from the mail but they are also officially one week old. I'm not a steeper and enjoy many juices that don't require it so I don't feel like it's too harsh to critique these (or any other juices) fresh.

My overall thoughts, and I could be wrong..
It's the nicotine that's causing the bad taste and aftertaste present in most of the flavors I received. The zero nic flavors I got as freebies are the only ones that don't have a burning tire-bitter plastic (or is it burning clutch mixed with gear lube) note to them. Even Castle Short has it but not as much as the others. Gotta be the nic. I'll steep most of these. Some for quite a while as I'm in no hurry to try them again soon. If they improve I'll be the first one to admit my early criticism.
I had higher expectations but at the same time, maybe I didn't. I did manage to find a fair CL clone and some darned nice tobacco. At this point I would be hesitant to re-order those nice tobaccos with the nicotine he's using though.

Night all.

Great review, thanks. I just placed my first order with them last night. I'm excited to give them a try.

@misterholidayhouse - I wasn't sure how your pistachio concoction would come out, but I must have been hoping for the best, because I'm way too dejected by your outcome! But I'll recover. And maybe undertake a little mission to buy a few things and find the right roadmap. I guess it would help if I tried the Noble version first.... :)

Still, I'm glad it wasn't all bad news. Especially good to hear that Castle Short stands up well, against the RESERVE original, even. Later tonight I'll be revisiting my order to check it over.

I ordered that one too! But it wasn't in my first round of trials. I'm usually very rigorous about steeping, especially when first trying a vendor, and that one seemed best left for later. However, I totally broke my 2-week rule and ripped right into these, and I wasn't one bit sorry. Nope.

My whole order was 50/50 12mg Standard flavor strength.

Apple Butter (Apple, Clove, Cinnamon and Brown Sugar) - Found under "Classic Recipes." I wouldn't say it's like stealing a spoonful of White House brand, but it's a very authentic taste, and a quality vape flavor. It's got a light spicy sweetness that might be very good for a recent ex-smoker trying to move away from tobacco taste. I already have an awesome idea for a custom blend with it, based on a childhood kitchen experiment-gone-right.

Badger Grease (Vanilla Custard, Brown Sugar, Honey, Sugar Cookie and Toasted Almond) - From the "Signature Mixes." This stuff will probably kill me, but I'm glad I tried it beforehand. Imagine a perfectly balanced blend of those flavor notes, where each is somehow easily detectable, coating your palate like a well-greased biscuit pan. So rich, I can't believe it's only Standard flavor level. Wow, it's hard to move on from this treat.

Castle Short (Kentucky Bourbon, Coconut, Toasted Almond, Vanilla, Madagascar Vanilla, Hazelnut, Virginia Fire Cured Tobacco and Brown Sugar) - From the "Signature Mixes." I've never tried the famous Long namesake because I don't like to pay that much. But if it's as good as this clone then it's a good vape. I can taste all of this, though the tobacco is just a shadow at this point. It's delicious, and if it gets any better with steeping I'll have to send Slim extra money. OK, maybe I'll just buy another bottle instead. Then I'll stir it with a charred popsicle stick to make a "reserve" version.

Chocolate Covered Cherries (Wild Cherries and Milk Chocolate) - Found under "Great Combos." As many of us have discovered, these two flavors are highly susceptible to ick factor in a vape recipe. Not this time. No cough drops or laxatives here. Very, very pleasant and sweet, and not too heavy. I had it with morning coffee and it was perfect.

Snake's Blood (Pear, Bavarian Cream and Coconut) - From the "Signature Mixes." I had already ordered this when a thread popped up asking about a possible replacement for Seduce Juice's Snake Oil. I mentioned this one, though I'd never tried either of them, so I thought I'd better try it out quickly. I'm happy to report that Slim's version is splendid. The pear is prominent but not too harsh, and the cream knits it with the coconut in a very mellow way. Another winner here.

So there you have it, an amazing five for five, with no steep time to speak of. I promise you that the only reason any of these little bottles will survive the weekend is because I have ten others to try! I have a tolerant taste, and I've liked quite a few vapes in my short career, but this is certainly my best-ever experience trying a new vendor.

How I Vaped: Smoktech Micro ADC II tanks w/1.5ohm factory coils, iStick 30 @ 12W

These have been in my possession for about 4 weeks, so here's the promised update. I'm tanking these in the same order from first tryouts, same equipment and parameters. Overall, there've been small improvements. Apple Butter still strikes me as a sweet clove-forward cigarette replacement. Chocolate Covered Cherries and Snake's Blood are just as good or slightly better than before.

Badger Grease seems to have mellowed out significantly. Now this might be because I was sub-ohming it the last time I tasted it. Or maybe it's because it followed the spicy Apple Butter this time. Whatever the reason, it seems less pungent this round. I still like it a lot, though it's probably a particular taste. It's a bit like the sort of decadent post-frat-party mad kitchen freakery I can see my younger self doing, dipping almond sugar cookies in custard spiked with brown sugar and honey. Would you grimace and head for the hills? Or scarf it all down and lick the bowl, then slam a beer and order pizza? Yeah, me too.

Castle Short has also gotten much better, to my taste, and I was already very happy with it. Something has happened between the booze and the vanilla and the coconut and brown sugar, something very confectionary, almost but not quite a chocolate taste. A bit like nibbling a chewy coconut nut bar after swishing a sip of fine bourbon. I'm loving it.

I'll be revisiting the rest of the line-up over the weekend....

I totally agree. In just a few days the Castle Short has mellowed and blended as you described perfectly above. I've been vaping this in my rotation every day. It still doesn't, and probably never will have the "clean" and lighter feel that 5P CLR has but I can't imagine anyone else coming any closer. Most of the unpleasant notes I detected fresh from the mail have faded away, other than the slightly waxy mouth feel. I agree there is a little more chocolate coming forward but not near enough to even consider it a chocolate vape. Vaping "Short" as I type this and am thoroughly enjoying it. I will be reordering this tonight as my bottle will be empty tomorrow.

If you think the nicotine is the culprit for the bad taste you could probably request VG nicotine. They use in it their cloud line so they might be happy to substitute it for you.

Good thought. I'll see how it steeps out. I'm already seeing improvement. I'm a little late for this helpful tip though. Just placed another order half an hour ago. :D All this for under 50 bucks and including 50ml of Castle Short. Compare that to 60ml of Castle long for $55.

See, the thing for me is that if a juice tastes like a55, I don't really care how cheap it is... it's simply garbage and I'm sure that's how it is with you too. Slim's juices IMHO are great and not only because of the price point. If the presentation was better and the website looked anything like 5P, he could easily charge more and people would've been happy. His chosen marketing strategy is what it is and I'm fine with it. More juice for less money and only for the knowledgeable people... I'm OK with this, too.

See, now I'm getting all excited about YOUR orders. AHL is another thing I've intentionally priced myself out of, so now--again--I want your experiment to WORK. Please kick that thing into shape!
Not to mention I'd like your opinion on those tobaccos. I fully intend to get a sample round of those, myself.

I'm pretty excited about the tobaccos based on how nice the RedBoro is. You may notice my new order has RY4 twice. After my failed RY4 custom I really want to see how it is in it's pure form and I also ordered one sample with double flavor by mistake. Lol. Reviews mentioned the Black Tea as a little weak so I doubled the flavor on that one, then added a half shot of caramel and a half shot of pear. No way to even know if those are the right ratios but I certainly don't want to over sweeten the tea. Overall it's a pretty macho lineup with the lone exception of Strawberry Shortcake, the girl on the team. A couple new ones are at my nic level and were freebies I got last time at zero nic, so that should answer my nicotine question. While I'm chiming in, I want to give an additional thumbs up to Peach Tobacco. This is the first peach I've been able to hang with for more than a few minutes. An excellent balance. Quite nice.

Just an update after my original sampling of my first order five days ago.. I took my most offensive fresh flavors and popped the caps and let them breath overnight, followed by daily shakings. Today I gave them another test vape in the dripper.
Cherry Balsam Tobacco remains the same. Harsh and medicinal with a waxy burned tire note. I don't have much hope but will let it rest another week and try it again.

My massively disappointing custom blend of Pistachio and RY4 has mellowed a LOT but still retains an overwhelming pine taste. Tobacco did show it's face today for the first time though. Another week to go before I try it again. Not giving up yet.

Carmel Corn, sadly, went down the drain today. Anything that still triggers my gag reflex a week later is not something I'm willing to try to save. It's unbelievably nasty. Bummer..

Drunken Turtle came round immediately after letting the alcohol breathe out. Unfortunately I've been informed by several bystanders that the smell is offensive to them. Any time that happens I'm done with an eliquid. I'm not a chocolate vape fan anyway so this is no big loss for me. Not a bad juice. Just not my thing and apparently not for others around me either.

Blacky Cigar, Slim's version of Black & Mild underwent a major transformation. I believe letting it breathe made the difference. It initially had an acrid alcohol presence and that is now mostly gone. The plastic taste is almost gone and the harsh individual components have now come together into a nice and somewhat complex sweetened cigar vape. It still kicks like a mule at only 8mg but in a good way. It's now happily in a Nautilus and will go golfing with me this afternoon. A fitting outing for this bold flavor. One more keeper. :)

Slim's liquids are making a believer out of me in the virtue of breathing and steeping when it comes to lower priced, mixed to order eliquid. (Something I have little experience with, even after nearly three years) I've got 9 more bottles coming and with just a couple exceptions for ones I'm comfortable with FOOB, they will all breathe and steep a week before I comment on them.

@misterholidayhouse - I'm glad they're moving in the right direction for you! Steeping has made HUGE differences for me with other made-to-order liquids, but Slim's seems to need less of it compared to those. The changes over time are less dramatic compared to ITCVapes and Vape Wild, but they are still noticeable. This claim is on the description page of every liquid:

"I use the best quality ingredients and allow my products to steep."

The first part of that is a subjective declaration, but I'm interested in what he means by the second part. I'm thinking he might be steeping the flavorings after blending them, which might provide for a little "pre-steeping" before he mixes them into the base. It might also mean that customized blends don't get that benefit as much, so might require a little extra time on the consumer's part. Just a thought! In my experience, any made-to-order liquid with a major tobacco component has required extra steeping to start tasting right. That may just be the nature of the flavor. My next re-visitation round will include my newly-adored Applewood Tobacco, and I'm curious--maybe a little wary--to find out what the weeks have done to it. But your Blacky Cigar report is encouraging.

Do you know what percentage was used in your Pistachio/RY4 mix? I expect to order both the Pistachio and the Pistachio Pudding flavors to play with, but I think I'd insert them into RY4 at about 20% to start out with.

Sorry to hear about Caramel Corn. I'm not a popcorn fan, so I won't be trying that one anyway. I do note that it was apparently a customer recipe, adding extra salted caramel flavor to the basic Kettle Corn juice available on the site. That latter one has a few nice reviews, so if I were interested in popcorn I'd probably try that one first.

One other thing I thought about after reading your reports: base ratio. I usually order 50/50, but I note that Slim's standard mix is 60 PG. I've used that before (NLV), with no ill effects, and it does pretty well in my standard gear. I think I'll try it on my Castle Short reorder. I think it might make steeping faster...or maybe he's even got some of those "fully standard" bottles just laying around already mixed. Might also reduce the "waxy" feeling.
