Okay, had to go back to my B&M, was going to try a different device but the owner was very nice and offered to let me try an alien that had 1.2.1 out of the box. I can't recall who it was that said earlier in the thread, that 1.2.1 was better for SS Temp control, but they were very right. Smoother ramp up to temp, more stable resistance monitoring, just a better machine without 1.2.2. If you use Stainless in your temp control builds, stay away from 1.2.2, it'll ruin your experience, and at best, you're going to have far more hoops to jump through before your device will work even close to properly (mine never did after 1.2.2)

So what happened? Did vendor help you get straightened out. Was he nice enough to offer a replacement? Did you contact smok for help in getting the 1.21 version back?

I played around with my friend's newly acquired SMOK Alien mod today and I must say I absolutely love the design. The large OLED screen is great and the features are plenty. I recently bought an IPV6X and I was considering trading it in for an Alien mod but I just didn't feel like the latter was sturdy. Maybe it is just me, but it felt "plastic-y" and a bit on the weak or at least non-durable side.

I read about how easily it gets scratched and I felt it a little bit today. Like on my IPV6X, the battery cover is also finicky but I am sure that can be resolved when using a cover/case.

Overall I think it's a beautiful looking mod but I don't think I'll be trading in my IPV just yet, at least until I am assured that it is durable enough.

I've had the Alien for about a month and a half now (over 15000 puffs, its rolled over once) and use it as my daily mod. I am very impressed with the battery life, as one set of batteries can get me through an entire day with a .2 ohm build at 75 watts (dual 8 wrap SS316L fused claptons) with the iJoy Combo RDTA. The paint is a little bit dinged here and there, as I do pocket the mod with a set of keys, the paint is holding up better than the istick 100tc, just mainly wearing off on the battery door. I've never had the battery door open on me, and it is quite secure. TC does work on SS as long as the TCR is adjusted to 92 instead of the default (92 is the best setting for 316L), and the wattage is set to what you would vape the coil at in regular power mode. My fire bar is still as solid as the day I got it. My only complaint is the brightness of the screen, it is difficult to see in the sun, but that is relatively minor. The paint doesn't bother me because I do give this mod a hard life and it is holding up well. I am using firmware 1.2.2.

Finally broke out the baby beast yesterday, and I have to say I'm not impressed.
Those of you using it, can you run it at rated power? if I get anywhere near the "best" wattage I get the basically burnt/dryish hit.
I'm disappointed, trying the .4 coils right now and it only taste OK around 35w but the performance is Meh.

I just got mine today and I really like it. It seems like a well built mod. It came with version 1.2.1 firmware and the TC mode seems to be working nicely for me. It seems that based on some of the other posts in this thread that I should refrain from upgrading to version 1.2.2.

If 1.2.1 is working for you then I would advise staying there. I upgraded to 1.2.2 and primarily use ss in temp mode and it worked great for me but others have reported different in temp mode after upgrading.

Does anyone has the hexfile of the firmware 1.2.1? I would like to downgrade because of terrible TC with 316L under firmware 1.2.2.
I would like to downgrade to 1.2.1 as well, hopefully someone has the file they can post as I have the same complaint as you, SS316L performance is lacking. Tried different TCR from .00092 down to .00088 and it is all lacking. I have a tank with a SS304 build and with the TCR at .00105 it is great compared to SS316L.

As far as the Baby Beast it is meh, shouldn't even have the name beast in it as it is no were close to the performance of its big brother TFV8. I think the old TFV4 Micro is a better tank, definitely more flavorful.

So the alien and the freemax starr pure were gifts from the wife for my birthday!! Absolutely love everything about both. I do have a quick question for the thread: i bought new batteries for the mod (Lg 20a 3000mah). I've noticed that when doing on board charging that the "a" battery is always 6% below the "b". I have swapped the battery location and it didn't effect the measurement; the "a" battery immediately read 6% lower than the "b". I know series batteries the "a" battery takes a heavier load but I also know that the alien mod has balanced charging. Mod works flawlessly just a curious question. If both batteries reach 100% should I worry that one charges slightly slower than the other? And when in use the "a" battery always reads as slightly lower (charge level) then the "b".

First of all, were these two batteries "married"? You should always marry your batts with an external charger and keep them together. I only use the internal charge for emergencies like when I am away from my home longer than I expected. I will charge in the car only if I need to. If you don't already have one, get a Nitecore charger and use that to charge your batts. It is safer and you will get more consistent results that way.

Second, even if they are married, two batteries made in the same factory using the exact same process will not necessarily perform exactly the same way.

Third, there may be a defect in the mod.

Thanks for the reply steelstring. I'm thinking that it is the 2nd option more than anything else. As the batteries were married and the mod itself is performing properly. It would make since that I had never noticed battery charge characteristics previously as all of my other devices are single 18650 mods.
