Hi, i bought the smok tf v4 about a month ago.
I find the quad and tri coils make the e juices i use taste totally flat, almost watery.
Ive been trying for almost a whole month trying to get the rebuildable coil working correctly, but no matter what i do im constantly getting dry hits. Im vaping between 25 - 30 W. Ive tried wicking it in a hundred different ways but cant get it correct.
Can anyone help,,,im using the griffin and tbh its superb but i really want the smok up n running.
Thanks in advance

First - Are you opening the Top Air Flow?
Worse than Bad Idea - Kills Flavor.

Haven't spent time with the Tri-coil, but others I know are very happy with it. I Personally use the Quad-Coil. The performance has been Spot on.
I DIY my Eliquids and can compare easily between liquids and tanks.

I Do find the Tank seems to perform best with higher VG liquids and generally run 30/70 mix.
* Remember, just because a Coil can handle (X) watts, does not mean your Flavor will be good at the Coils Max output. Find your Sweet Spot by starting at the Lower end and gradually working up.
For me, my Quad-Coil and 80w is heaven Vaping a Creamy Hazelnut.

As for RBA Decks, sorry but that is a book unto itself. I recommend watching a Few Youtube Videos' on Building the Deck, finding a few that Produce Top results and Trying your best to Closely mimic the build.:)

Which RBA Deck are you attempting to perfect?
Single
Dual
Clapton
Tri-coil

Thanks for your reply mate.
Ive got a 7 wrap single coil on the deck. My juice is high vg 80/20.
With the quad and tri coil i find the flavour really muted,,they handle wattage really well with huge clouds but really not a nice vape. Best i get for flavour with these coils is at 55w but still its not great. I dont open the top airflow. Ive watched all the youtube vids and tried to copy the builds. Im sure its a wicking issue,,but cant get it..such a shame as i think this tank has "potential".

Well, first lets see if we can change the production a bit.

Your using a Single coil. What ohms and wire Gauge?
20/80 is a bit thick, but should not present a problem with the large channels.

Sorry, mind is going in many directions. Setup, particular e-liquid mix and such.

Okay, first, go for your typical Cotton fill, good and wet, ready for action.
Set your power in your normal range, 30w or so. (Sounds about right for a single coil)

Before you start Vaping, Close the Bottom air Flow about 50% - May eventually Close or open more.

Your Dry hit, poor flavor seems to be coming from a lack of liquid flow. You get a Good Blast and a flat line following. So, Vapor and little flavor.

* A poor decision by Smok - The single coil Deck has no Air Spacer and a large center hole. On the Clapton Deck they include a Reducer.(Hint to Smok:unsure:)
High Air Flow may be impeding Wicking. Shutting down the AFC can offset that issue to some degree. Increasing Air velocity and Vacuum on tank to draw liquid.

Hopefully this will help some. Remember a Wet Wick will not deliver a Dry Hit.;)

Once again thanks,,
Ive tried closing the air intake to almost nothing where ive been practically sucking the juice through and into the wick. Its definitely a wicking problem.
Tried again with quad and tri coil and hated it,,,flavourless and just a hot vape.
Gonna have one more go tonight with the wick,,if doesnt work itll end up in the drawer. Been using the griffin and tbh its a phenomenal tank,,,soooo wanted the smok to work....

Hot would indicate to high Wattage setting for your preference and To long a Draw leading to excessive heat up.

It would be Best to Choose one Coil Platform and stick with that until sorting everything out to satisfaction.
There is no rule saying you Must use only one tank, so get your good one going and enjoy while experimenting.
Also no need to Fill the tank with every attempt. A millimeter is more than enough.

Your RBA deck sounds like an over packing issue.
More wick/Less wick - Same results - may equal Wick material to long and being packed to the point of choking flow off.

The wick should always Just snugly fit the Coil(I use Rayon to avoid Swelling)
For Length, I always find Cutting the wick to just cover the Channels, without entering, works best.
I Wet them and tuck with a toothpick to create a small Ball sitting on the channel top.Once the chimney is in place and creates the full channel, it is wide open and free to fill with liquid.
Your Coil should sit several mm above the Air opening to allow Maximum flow around the coil.

Tell me about the Liquids you are Vaping.
Brand
Flavor
PG/VG ratio
Nicotine mg
Average Wattage used to Vape on this setup

Gauge and Type of Wire you are using for your build?
Actual Ohms of build?
7 wraps 26 Gauge Kanthal is vastly Different from 7 wraps Stainless Steel

This is an excellent example of how I wick all my Single and Dual coil Tanks
