I have read that people have set off smoke detectors in hotel rooms and stuff. The apartments I live in have smoke detectors all over the place and the only time I have set them off is when I bbq and the smoke has come in. So in a few days I leave to go out of town for work and I will be gone for a while. The hotel we are staying at say it had smoke free rooms. And no I am not the one that Vapes and makes the big clouds where smoking is not allowed. I admit it I do stealth vape when the wife has me at wal mart just a little too long. I do my best to obey they rules, but there is no way I can go that long without vaping. I do not do cold well and I am not about to sit out in the snow to vape. So since I am not a cloud chaser do you think I can get away with vaping in my room?

Just don't stand up right under the smoke detector and blow right at it and you'll be fine. I've blown reasonable RBA clouds in hotel rooms while laying in bed, sometimes towards the smoke detector on the wall and nothing happened. I've even vaped in airplane bathrooms while blowing down or straight ahead and nothing happened.

Yes, two types of detectors. Ionization smoke alarms sense the smoke when it enters the detector. Harder to set those off simply vaping in a room. Photoelectric smoke alarms use a light beam and they are the ones more likely to go nuts on you.

Thanks for explaining! I could not think of the terminology. I just knew that I had read about it here on ECF before.

Me too. Couldn't remember what they were called and had to look them up.

Robin, look out for those hotel rooms. My husband took a shower, looked more like a sauna, opened the bathroom door and the alarm went off. He wound up with half the hotel staff in the room while he was in a towel.

I'd just yell "PERVERTS! I'M CALLING THE COPS!" More seriously, I hope they quickly realized what happened and got out as quickly as they came, else I'd really be calling the cops to refrain myself from more drastic actions... if the bathroom fan isn't working or strong enough, it's their problem, not mine! That was just it, there was no fan in there and the fire detector was mounted right next to the door.

Urban legend....

I have never even been able to set off a smoke alarm, with a REAL cigarette. Without holding the smoker right up to the sensor. Can't see how some water vapor is going to set one off, without lots of effort.

Yeah 30 or 40 years ago, when detectors first came onto the market.... You could set them off with the fart of a flea or even burned water.. Not so much an issue these days.
