I happen to be watching the history channels special on the assassination of JFK and they are showing the news broadcast that was put on the air and you can see the smoke rolling across the screen from the broadcaster's cigarettes that are burning just off screen. It struck me then the huge difference of perception that cigarette smoking has now compared to then.
It was in the not too distant past that cigarette smokers were looked up to as fashionable and hip, a far cry from the reception a smoker receives in today's society. I remember being able to smoke in hospital rooms with the patient and not get a second look provided the patient wasn't on oxygen or something.
