Ive only been vaping about a week, and all my friends smoke analogs. Its kind of what drove my analog habit. i thought, well they all smoke, and look fine, its no big deal. We are all late 20's early 30's and work out and look fit and healthy. Its amazing that we wont eat too many carbs and suppleness vitamins, protein and try to limit alcohol to be in shape and be fit, but all smoke analogs. A friend of mine and I would smoke on the way to the gym! Its kind of an unspoken thing that we all knew was bad, but accepted because it was accepted in our social circle. When we hang out someone would light an analog and pass the pack around. The rule is "if you got a pack, share it" If I was driving a friend, he would have no hesitation to light up, hand it to me no questions asked and light one for himself without even asking. Even if I didn't ask or crave an analog, at a party etc, one of my friends would always say "hey man lets go outside and burn one" and I would drop what I was doing or who I was talking to and go smoke. For poker night we would always have it at one guy's house because he lived alone and we could smoke analogs inside the whole time. At the end of the night there would be ashtrays, beer bottles, and cups filled with butts and ash all over the place. None of us made an effort to quit, or even mentioned the fact that it was unhealthy. It was just a habit we all shared. We all just consider ourselves smokers and thats it.
Anyway, I have been vaping and smoking way less (in fact its been two days since Ive had an analog for the first time in 10 years). Ive been trying to convince them all to switch, but for the most part the general feedback i get is: "If I'm gonna smoke something, i would rather have a cigg" The ones who have tried it say "Nah, i dont like that fruity taste, I want to taste tobacco" or "Man, that stuff is artificial chemicals, its probably worse for you" even when I explain vaping and say its safe. My most frustrating comment was after I showed them my setup, and how much the basic price was and price for juice "You could have bought like 3 cartons for that! What a waste of money, and its not even real smoke!" One that angered me was last night on the way to the gym, my friend lit a cig and I pulled out my 510 and vaped. He said "Dude you look like an idiot puffing on that thing, here have a cig" (to which I declined)
Its not that they are trying to be offensive, but I guess that if someone doesn't even want to accept that smoking is damaging or quit smoking and switch to vaping there is nothing you can really do. Anyway, i am two days analog free and making the transition well, I slip now and then but now analogs are getting more and more repulsive to me. Happy vaping, and thanks for all the positive support, this forum is really helping me!

Congrats on the switch, and though I know it's easier said than done: don't worry about what anyone else says or thinks. It's your quit, do it how you want.

Personally I like to come up with witty comebacks in advance. Next time you're offered a smoke, try:
  • No thanks, I like my nicotine without the side order of cancer!
  • Nah. I'd rather smell like >>whatever you're vaping<< instead of an ashtray.
  • Let's see... Go outside in the cold to smoke, or stay inside and vape. Hm......

Enjoy your vape, enjoy your hobby, and be patient. Once you start performing better than everyone else at the gym in a month or so you might be surprised how many converts you get :D

They will eventually come around or not, They must make their own decisions. You know you are making a healthier choice, and that is all that matters. Good Luck!

Another thing to remember, as it seems a bone of contention with them. The most expensive setup you can put together right now is probably in the $600-700 range. Assuming you bought a pack a day, and they were the cheap $4 ones, you would still have paid off that setup in half a year, and would still have something to show for it other than a huge pile of cigarette butts.

Your friends may come around later. When I first started vaping, none of my smoker friends wanted anything to do with it. Almost 9 months later, they are asking more and more questions. So maybe a few converts will pop up soon. And the truth is, I had an old friend who came to town and he was suddenly vaping instead of smoking. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but a couple months later I thought, hey maybe that vaping thing would work. And here I am. :) Just keep doing your thing, they may just surprise you.

My buddy and I were the same way. We were the only two who smoked in our cirlce, he actually got me into analogs. Both of us being gym nuts smoked on the way to the gym, at the gym, and leaving the gym. The moment I realized that I needed to quit was when I was at a Light the Night walk for cancer and was sneaking away every 20 minutes to burn one. So I quit and took up electronics. Then just last month I got him into it too! He turned me to the dark side then I turned him to the light side.

Every one of my friends love it when I come over now cause I usually show up with some new mod or juice and they're just itching to try it, even the non/occasional smokers.

Some people just fear change...
And honestly all that matters in the end is that its helping YOU! If they are accepting of it, all the better... if not... their loss.
I had gotten a few strange looks from a few friends and co workers at first, always immediately follow by congrats on quitting smoking and a barrage of questions about how they work/taste/etc...
If your friends have hangups about it... its their problem and if they hassle you about it beyond a 'buddies just poking fun at each other', then I would really begin questioning the value of their friendship...
I know its easy to speak idealisticaly about it, and the peer pressure can have more of an affect than most would like to admit (and most of us could admit thats likely how we all started smoking to begin with!)... but I sincerely hope your 'friends' come around and support you at the very least if not convert over themselves...
Regardless of that, congratulations to you for making the big step!!!

Thanks guys, hopefully they will come around and be converted, but if not, I tried. My health is whats important to me right now, not what their response really is.

Good attitude, and congrats on trying to make the switch :D Another part of their reaction could be that same panic I'm sure we all felt(at least a little) when someone talked to us about quitting smoking. We've all made excuses in the past about why we didn't want or need to quit, I enjoy smoking, I like the taste of my cigarettes, it's not really effecting my health, I don't smoke that much, etc. and it's amazing how pretty much all of that fades away when you get into vaping and realize that there's a better(IMO) way to do it.

This is true. My excuse was about 8 months ago I had a full checkup done and came back with a clean bill of health. After that I thought to myself I could still smoke, as long as I didnt increase the amount, because it was OK so far, I guess you can justify anything to yourself.
