I am reading a lot of helpful info, doing searches and hearing from people from all over, from all walks of life.. but I still haven't found a thread asking this question (a big one in my eyes)... Was it hard to go from smoking to vaping? Did you have to do it carefully, through slow transition, or was it simple for you to kick the gross habit, for a healthier, cleaner one?

Any and all advice/comments are welcome!!

With only small effort, I have gone from smoking 1 1/2-2 packs of cigarettes/day (for 40+ *years*!!!) to 5-6! (I still have 3+cartons laying around!) Take note that I was smoking 15-16 cigarettes the first few days, but am consistently at 6 (usually 5) or fewer for over 1 1/2 weeks. I am confident that eventually I will leave them behind FOREVER! I have tried EVERYTHING available, to quit smoking & this is the first time I even had an inkling that I'd be successful!

I am told that the "key" is finding the right combo of PV & juice. I have a Joye 510, and a Riva 510. I am very happy with both. So far, my favorite juice is FreedomUSA's Green Tea (Tea,Green) 30mg. in a 90%PG/10%VG base. Their Zen Garden is good, too. Herby, kind of...but just a touch "harsher". I have been vaping for 3 weeks & 1 day.

Good Luck!

Thanks peekers! I have a 90%/10% cherry mix coming, I believe it is 18mg from the same company.. I also have several other "formulas" coming, so I guess I will see what I take better to and stick with it! I am kind of anxious that I will just be taking in twice as much nicotine, because so far nothing has alleviated my urge to smoke, so I'm crossing my fingers and toes, and praying this works for me!!

There is a really informative thread somewhere on the forum about the 10% of alkaloids in cigs that are not nicotine and how they impact addiction. I looked, but couldn't find it. Perhaps someone else can post the link.

Bottom line of it all was you may or may not feel totally satisfied when you switch to an ecig. They recommend using snus if you still have cravings. I'm taking another approach and am slowly replacing analogs with my pv. I'm down from 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day to less than half a pack with minimal discomfort. I smoked for over 40 years and have tried the gum and the patch with little success. I hope to eventually kick the habit entirely, but I'm patient. In all honesty, I can't believe I'm only smoking half a pack a day without clawing the walls.

It is very unlikely you will be taking in twice as much nicotine.
In fact, it is far more likely you will be taking in less.

The average amount of juice used is somewhere between 1ml to 5ml per day, with most people at around 2ml to 3ml per day.
Since the juice strength is mg/ml a juice that is 24mg strength will provide 72mg for a person using 3ml per day.

Now here is the part that most people who are worried don't know... we do not absorb all of that nicotine from vaping.

Some studies have shown that we get around 10% of the nicotine from vaping.
Others see flaws in those studies, have done their own testing, and feel we get more like 40% of the nicotine from vaping.

So if using 3ml per day of 24mg strength liquid, you would get anywhere from 7.2mg to 28.8mg of nicotine.
And that would equal about 7 to 28 cigarettes, depending on what cigarettes we are talking about, and how much we really absorb.

I got my original 510 back in December - I think by 10 days in (when my signature ticker starts) I had stopped smoking entirely. I went down from 20 a day to 10 almost on day one and then reduced a little every day after then - it wasn't concious, it just happened, I found I preferred the vape to the cigs. For me its never been about the nic but the habit itself although I do use zero nic now n again, I still use 12mg most of the time.
Can't say I really miss cigs becuse vaping satisfies the smoking habit.

quit as my signature states 07/26/10, cold turkey with a 510 kit 4 batts and 5 attys, bought juice to go with it, fell off the wagon the very next morning having 1 analog, havent looked back!

the weak moment that next morning was about NOT HAVING juice choices , once i found a decent morning vapor, it was all gravy :)

also, i was 35 year smoker - a 2pk+ a day smoker for the last 10,

For me it was easy and hard at the same time. It was like falling in love. Really.... It's so good, and so easy that you just don't trust that it can really be true.

As long as you have a good PV and juice you like in the right strength, it's just a matter of believing it'll work.

ps: smoked 3/4 pack of camel filters a day for 25 years. smoked one cigarette the night I got my 510, 2 the next day, 1 the morning after that and then that was it

...until this July when my batteries all ran out on my camping trip. Smoked for 2 days, and believe it or not, it was no big deal - I was never tempted to quit vaping. I got home and charged up my batteries and vaped. In the old days, one cigarette meant the instant death of any quit-smoking thing I was trying to do. With the e-cig, it didn't even matter.

Cigarettes? I can take 'em or leave 'em. They aren't my boss anymore.

i got mine yesterday and was so psyched to see it. after vaping for a while, i realized how different it was from smoking. i unfortunately did smoke a few cigarettes last night while drinking, and woke up craving one today too. i definitely don't have as much of an urge as i used to, but i do really want a cigarette from time to time. i'm sure it'll pass once i've gotten into the habit of doing this more often though.
