Yep, what dhughey said.

I put a bit of electrical tape around the area I'm going to cut.
Although, when you DO cut it, be prepared for the small bit to go flying across the room, heh.
Hell, I'd even suggest wearing safety goggles or something.

I think it's also worth noting that, if you try this stuff and it works for you, just go to a hardware
store and buy it by the foot. Make sure it's UNgalvanized. You'll save some dough that way.

^^ ... What you said. But this reminds me, this is a good use for the little snips of resistance wire that are left over after a build. Just wrap one around the end to serve the same purpose. BTW zip, how's your rope you bought at the hardware store working out? get it built yet?

Yea, pieces do go flying at you and around the room when your trimming them to size. My girl was walking bear foot and got one stuck in the skin of her foot. She was not happy to say the least, lol. Now I cut my wicks outside.

I'm vaping it right now! Working great, thanks for asking! I cut a few lengths and looked up ways to test for galvanization and did those.
I threw out the test bits (no one wants to vape Draino) and cut a new length, gave it a good rinse and soak in near-boiling water,
torched it until red hot, soaked it again, and started using it in my IChybrid. Here's a few photos.

For those that do not buy precut ss cable wicks, do they fray at all when you cut them? Also, what are you using to cut them with?

Painters tape works just as well as electrical tape. Definitely yes on the safety goggles as well. I use a dremel tool to cut mine, and don't see any bits going flying..although there's always sparks as it cuts through the wire.

what is everyones favorite material wick to use in the rsst

I suggest 1/8" FC2000 ceramic wicks form Discount Vapers. I have been using the same wick and coil in one of mine for 3-4 months now. All you have to do to clean it is just wash the tank out with water, then dry burn. Simple as that.

Has anyone else replaced the top insulator with one from an AGA-T+ or T2 or a DID clone? I have done this to all 3 now. I think it will help with the leaking down the center post. I also teflon taped the main tube that holds the top and bottom of the RSST together. But I think it was mostly coming from the juice/condensation that built up in the top of the deck/ top cap and leaked down past the plastic insulator that holds the positive post. I think the rubber one's from the AGA-T+/T2 or the DID clone will help seal it better and keep it from leaking.

Here's a china cloud chaser on a budget. Haven't use this one in a wile, but decided to pull it out again.... and I gotta say, this setup makes massive clouds.

Sigelei #19E with brass bottom button contact (no more magnet), RSST with silver plated post, fusion SG-1 hybrid adaport (battery makes direct contact to the silver post), 3/32nd SS cable with XS-18 sleeve, and 3 wraps of 26g kanthal coming out to 0.5ohms.

Y'know.....I've still got to give the ceramic another shot. I'm doing good with everything as long as I use the XS-18 stuff as a hat/sock for the top of the wick. Everything being SS mesh and SS cable. Except for my silly Rainblow Heaven Hybrid Elite. I never understood the importance of voltage drop until I got this thing....yeeesh.

I'm kind of disappointed in my RSST. I'm not getting much flavor at all out of it, in fact I get more out of my Vivi Novas. I'm using 500 mesh lightly torched, rolled with a hole in the middle, wicking super good, 4 wraps with 28 awg coming out to 0.8 ohms, stock air hole, and now have put a ekowool sleeve with no change to taste. Any ideas on how to get more flavor?

.8 ohms & the stock air hole is not a good combo. If you prefer to stick with .8 ohms you need to go bigger on the air hole. If you don't want a airy draw & keep the stock air hole then raise the resistance.

I'm sitting here with a huge problem or at least one that seems huge to me.
I placed the RSST on my ZMax to test resistance and like it's been doing from day one, the ohms jumped from one extreme to the other. It's either "low load" or 9.9.
Anyway, as I was removing it from the ZMax, the whole thing came apart and the center screw does not hold it together. The bottom cap won't even stay on. I'm ready to chuck the whole thing in the trash. I haven't been able to get this to work in the few days I've had it.

Sounds like the bottom insulator stripped out or broke. Don't chuck it, if you really are considering throwing it away, hit me up, I have an idea on how to fix it by machining a new post or new insulator.

BTW I plan on selling my RSST soon. I do have an extra bottom cap that has the 510 issue. If I'm able to rethread it that will be for sale too.

The best way to deal with something stressful is to walk away from it and come back later which is what I did.

Out of all the youtube videos there are regarding the RSST, I haven't seen one that totally disassembles the atomizer and rebuilds it piece by piece until now.
The bottom cap has a plastic ring/spacer that somehow raised up just enough so that the center post wouldn't screw down as it should which kept making the whole thing fall apart.

Frustration made me say I was ready to chuck it. I'm happy it turned out to be something really simple.

Well maybe I'll try some 30 awg and shoot for a 1.3-1.5 ohm coil and throw it on my Provari and play with the voltage. I'm thinking the airhole does need drilled some, it's pretty tight. I'm worried that drilling it will make for even less flavor.
