First ever mech came monday. Second mech came Tuesday. fasttech order came to me today. I have an agat2 waiting to be built but I made a video for my concerns. It tastes terrible. Unvapable.

I did pulse the wire and had NO hot spots right out the gate. I was thrillllleeedd

Please give me some advice guys thanks in advance!

Just to add to the suggestions already posted. Dont just add juice as soon as you dont see hot spots. keep pulsing for a while. take your time. Especially since you more than likely dont really know what to look for yet. Let the coils change color. They will turn brown with a greenish hue. well thats what color it looks like to my eyes. good luck.

From my slowly growing experience, I'm thinking this is sound advice. How many times I've got the coils glowing evenly, add juice, and find the flavor to be off in some way, and not only burnt, but more often just dull - only to find I've got some serious hot spots going a moment later when I look under the hood. Why is it that introducing juice to the wick seems to foster hot spots? Can't figure that out, yet it happens to me often.

Also to add to what's already said. To me it looks like this stock coil is wrapped too tight around the mesh causing almost a direct short. You should dump the setup as Hello World has mentioned. You can't wrap too tight or too loose... this takes a little practice though, but not at all difficult. Also, once you finish your pulsing, don't fill your tank to test it. Instead drop a few drops in the coil area and do some burns and adjust the coils as needed. The juice will also help to insulate the wire a bit as it builds a coating. You'll know you're good to go if you see absolutely no hot spots anywhere on the coil when there's juice there. Once you feel like all's good, then you can fill your tank.

Anybody else have problems filling the RSST with juice? I have tried different sizes of needles but still get a juice backup all over the deck. I'm guessing not enough room for air to escape between the needle and the fill hole but maybe I'm missing something in my technique.
I know this is not rocket science but perhaps someone has a quick tip to help me.

Thanks!

I usually get juice bubbling around my wick hole but not much juice actually escape. I dont even use a syringe. I add straight from the bottle.

Try to keep top of tank dry during filling, push needle in to bottom of tank, fill slowly.

A bit of prying, used a sharp point as a wedge and gently tapped it to separate it from the atty walls.

I used a flat headed punch with about the same diameter as the hole. Gently tapped it from the inside. Came right out. The insulator is semi-clear by the way, just like the rest of the insulators. It only looks black inside the hole!

I hope you guys could help me out. I am a noob when it comes to gennies. I just got a RSST. My wick is a 3/32 SS rope with 400 mesh. I am using 32 gauge kanthal 4-3 rap. It seems it takes a while to get the coil hot to produce good vaper and flavor. I am using it on my vamo at about 10 watts the coil is 1.9 ohms. Should I use thiner wire to get it to heat faster? Or is using the rope pulling the heat from the coil?

The rope does act as a heatsink. I have found best results with sub-ohm setups on a mech mod. My sweet spot for ss cable wicks is 0.7ohms using 28AWG Kanthal. I have also found that covering the top cable with silica sleeving instead of mesh eliminates the heatsink effect. You may have luck with that. If you don't have or don't want to try silica sleeving, make your mesh layer thicker to act as a buffer on heat transfer. 10 watts is pretty low for this application. Try upping it as well.

The trick is to wrap the coils around the mesh without having any voids, and at the same token not so tight that it bites right into it. Heat sink type of effects can come into play when insufficient contact exist, since the airspace between the coil and the wick has to act as a transfer agent to vaporize the liquid ... and that takes time.

Where can I get the silica sleeving at??

Kidney Puncher has them. I use the XS-118 as the XS-116 is a bit too narrow for the 3/32 cable. Some people have gotten the narrower one to fit but I can't. Buy some of both and experiment. Couldn't hurt. They have ribbon Kanthal too. That works great with this setup. The .5mm is more like 32 gauge wire and the .8mm is more like 28 gauge with regards to resistances.

i just ordered the rsst from exhalevapor, but since im planning to use it on the go as well i was planning on getting a thumb screw for the fill hole to prevent leaking. first does anyone know the hole size of it? i see people using the nylon ones, but was wondering why no one has used a stainless steel one.

my fill hole doesnt leak. I have 3 of them and mainly use them on the go because of the fill plug. maybe you could try it out before you spend money on thumb screws. also, i dont have the best eyesight anymore but i dont think its threaded. mine look smooth inside.
