SmokTech RSST Genesis Rebuildable

Hey guys and gals,
I've been vaping over a year now and this forum has been very informative.
Just recently I decided to try a rebuildable atomizer and got the SmokTech RSST Genesis clone, but I am experiencing some problems. I used 32 awg wire 7/6 to achieve 1.4 ohm resistance, from what I've read I should only need to do 4/3. Also the taste is harsh and if I power the device without the top cap; it just spits really hot juice. Can someone tell me if I am doing something wrong.

Sounds like you have a short. 32g wire shouldn't have such a low resistance with 7 wraps. did you oxidize your wick?

Yes, I oxidized before rolling it and after.
Also I noticed that before filling it with liquid I was getting 3 ohm reading and than after powering the atomizer it dropped back to 1.3 to 1.4 ohms.

Sometimes after prolong use it drops to 1.2.

Rarely does it drop lower than 1.2

Before filling it, I tested to make sure that the coil was getting hot evenly.

I thought it was giving error about low resistance, but it was just a low battery indicator.
Still, you can see that the resistance was jumping a bit...

I am going to rebuild this atomizer a bit later today, but I would appreciate any comments on the current setup and any flaws you can point out to me.
One flaw I see is that the coil is turning red and it should not do that, I am not sure why it's turning red, maybe it's because of the short mentioned earlier. Not sure where the short might be occurring.

Feedback is greatly appreciated, I will keep this thread updated with my success (hopefully).

I rebuilt it with what was labeled 28 awg wire but it was actually thinner.
5/4 wrap gave me 2.8 ohms
It's vaping much better now at 4.7 volts.

But it's still squirting a lot of hot juice. I am wondering if I should have built the wick with a hole to fix the problem.
Seems like it's going through 3ml of juice really fast.

Yea try rolling the wick with a small hole down the middle that's what I do with my rsst... But I just got some ss cable so ill b rebuilding with that tomorrow goodluck

yup theres the problem - mislabled wire... the thickness goes up as the gauge goes down

I agree with Thrasher cause there is no way you would get 1.4 ohms with a 7/6 32g Kanthal lol. That's too low of a resistance for such a high resistance wire PLUS that's so many wraps. The more wraps the higher the resistance. 28g can make 1.4 however.

Try tilting your wick towards the center post to shorten the distance. That should get the hotspot out of the top coil that was in the video. When your the vapor comes directly out of the top of the wick there is usually a hotpot somewhere. Try also kinking a 90deg. angle from the wick to the post to shorten it and wrap to the inside of the post not the outside. Make sure there are no gaps between the wick and coil wraps too...tight enough to touch but not to choke the wick.

yeah that top hot spot in the vid will kill your vape... scorch the juice.

welcome to the world of Genesis... it can be frustrating, but once you get a good coil, its great!
You can use it over and over; by cleaning and dry burning every few tanks or like once a week...
One method for cleaning: when the tank is empty, and its time to clean, leave the coil/wick in.
- fill the tank with hot water to clean, rinse the coil/wick too... empty and tamp dry.
-dry burn the coil until it shows clean from carbon (there's threads and video about this)

@ducker74's advice on wrapping is spot on...

I have Ekowool around mine which helps with the hotspots but you can see how it is tilted and the distance between the post is really small. Hope it helps some.

ducker, i just ordered some xc to put around my ss mesh wicks, because i know how this "sleeving" eliminates hot spots so well, how it wicks well too.
but in the past i used a silica sleeve, xs and it gunks up real fast... dry burning usually ruined the xs.

is eko wool more resistant to dry burning than silica? and is it a ceramic?

Ekowool is silica also. Its a high grade , high heat resistant silica. I have it in my IGO-L which I dry burn with a torch to "rejuvinate" it when I put too many flavors on it and it starts to bleed together. It doesn't break down as much or as quick as regular twisted silica but I'm not sure about xs silica.

to get rid of your hotspot slightly twist your wick then fire it up keep doing this till it is gone , ive been using that method for a year and it works like a champ , just last week ive been using cotton balls for a wick it works really well i just have to replace my wick about every 3 days but my juice stays clear unlike the ss mesh but the mesh only needs to be cleaned once a week so theres a trade off but either way i can replace both set ups in under 5 min so its no biggie

do you roll the cotton like in the shape of a wick?
what resistance do you prefer?

also best to take out the silicon plug, you will find this will give u a much better vape as well

Take out the insulation for better vape? That doesnt sounds right?! Its 25 bucks so i am still considering of buying it... any other similar, non dripping rba`s? Like cobra, rsst, aga...

No pacman is referring to the fill hold plug. The little white plug. If you Vale with it in it creates a suction and doesn't allow for good wicking. Take it out when you and it will get better. It will also take a little bit for the wick to fully reach its potential for taste and wicking so don't be discouraged if it taste a little off at first even when you know you got out the hotspots. Just stick with the wick.
