Been watching this thread for a week now. It was 1 week ago when I purchased a smok Telescope (Black Chrome version) and wanted to give it a go before posting my opinions of it here. My other mod (about a month old) is a Lavatube YJ version 2.0. On this telescope I have so far only used 18650 (2 alternating) batteries, which seem to be good. These are the same batteries I got when purchasing the LT.

My conclusion , so far, I'm liking this Telescope far more than the Lavatube and here's a few reasons why.................

1. I've found (so far, within my current budget) my favorite carto/Atty is Vivi Nova Tank, and I now have 5 of them. All running the 1.8 ohm atty head. I am comparing these to startdusts, Smok DC mega cartomizer, and Boge 1.5 Ohm cartomizers (although the 1.5 Boge is prob my 2nd fave on this device). On this Telescope using Vivi Nova I've found the 1.8ohm works great, the 2.4 ohm is ok, and the 2.8 ohms not so ok( I think the 2.8's have a wicking issue, the wicks are different). So I plan on getting some backup 1.8 ohm heads soon. Using the Vivi Nova's on the LT they work great as well, but the best voltage ( since its VV ) is in the range of 3.8-4.2. My 18650 batteries fresh off the charger measure 4.1v with a volt meter, which is ideal for the Vivi's without any VV needed, hence why it works well on this Telescope with no VV. This makes using the Lavatube with the Vivi's kind of a mute point, can't tell much difference in vape production. I've also become a little weary of PWM which the LT uses, not acurate in voltage reading at all I feel. BTW...measuring the 1.8ohm heads of the Vivi's on a ohm meter (all 5 of them) they actually measure 2ohms.

2. Even though a 18650 battery last's me all day on both devices, for some reason the same battery when used on the Telescope lasts MUCH longer. After a full normal days use on the Lavatube it takes nearly 1.5 - 2 hours to recharge it, On the Telescope it takes maybe 30 mins, and still at 3.9v. ( I can also confirm this by taking a days use battery on the Telescope and putting it in the LT to check the level meter, much more life left in it than if used in the LT all day). This is using the same Vivi @ 1.8 ohm all day on both. I think the PWM on the LT drains the batteries more than it does without it on the Telescope.

3. The math (ohms law v2 / r = P) on the Telescope with a fresh battery is 4.1v x 4.1v / 2ohms = 8.4w. This is close enough feeling wise to what I would leave it on if I were to use the Vivi's on the LT all day, which makes the VV on the LT an unnecessary feature for me.

4. I plan on getting a Kick in combo with some 18500 batteries for the Telescope. This way I could maybe bump up the wattage just a little (to maybe 9) which I think may be even better for me. This would make the Telescope a set it and forget for other resistance carto's. This will also add some short protection for the Telescope, as well as some extra protection for the battery. I think this would give a more consistent all day vape on the Telescope. Conclusion here = poor mans Darwin, for 1/3 the price of a Darwin.

5. Other points - Don't have to check voltage lvl like I have to while using the the LT. I like the bottom button better than the button on the LT. The Telescope is more compact than the LT (even with the 18650 batt), which makes it better to take with me while going out. It is heavier....lol... I have a postage scale > LT with battery = 3.45oz/99gm > Telescope with battery = 4.55oz/129gm.

Yes, the Telescope had some MAJOR flaws on the initial release, but seems these have all been worked out. The Telescope version I have is the black chrome, not sure is its different than the regular chrome ones but this thing has 6 vent holes near the top, 1 in the middle, and one on the bottom for a total of 8 vents. Putting the battery in backwards does not make it fire inadvertently like I have seen in another review, checked and confirmed this, but have no way to confirm if it would if my battery was a button top type which it is not. One thing that I am not sure of yet is if the fire button is metal or plastic, but do think it's not the same material as the rest of the MOD.

I so far prefer using this over my Lavatube. It has become my main daily device for now. Seeing how so many of these LT fail over prolonged use, I feel it may prolong the life of my Lavatube as it is now my backup MOD should I ever need it. I always carry a eGo 650Mah as a backup while I'm away from home in case of a failure.

Whew....sorry for going on so long....but hope this will be helpful for anyone out there considering buying this device . Just my opinion....for $45 it's worth it. And for ~$55 more i'll be adding a Kick and 18500.

Just got mine today and I love it. One thing. Is it safe to run this with out the teflon washer on the spring? It seems okay and also seems like it give out more power without it. Just don't want a vented battery. Sorry for the ignorance but I dont have time to look.

I'd be weary of prolonged use of this device removing the teflon washer from the spring. It could cause the battery to make inadvertent contact and mis-fire the device if the glue thats attaching the spring to the bottom contacts the rest of the unit. I believe that teflon is used as a semi safety feature.

I could not agree more. Thanks for posting this. i have been meaning to post my findings and you have done a tremendous job of truly highlighting the beauty and function of such a simple and CHEAP mod. In effort not to hi jack your post I will keep this brief, but I just purchased my second Telescope (Black Chrome) this time. I basically fried my first, no ones fault. I thought is was locked in my back pocket only to realize that it wasn't and had been firing a super low resistance Phoenix for who know's how long.... Worked for a few more days, then became inconsistent in its firing... Pulled the top cap, the positive wire that connects the batt to 510 conn was litterally fried [Open] Cable snapped in half. Did not want to jeopardize my safety so decided to buy another. ANYWAY... Tried to keep it short, bottom line that I am actually hating life with my LT while I wait for my Tele to arrive tomorrow! I find my vaping FAR more pleasurable on the Tele. Funny how this $45 mod is killing my LT. Thanks again for posting! This has been my experience as well, to say the least :)

i have been using an ego type device for almost 2 years and decided to get a mod. after countless hours i narrowed my search down to the smoketek telescope mod. i like that i can use many different kinds of batteries depending on where i am going. the 18650 should last me all day (i use boge 2.0 cartos).
i also like he fact that there isnt all that circuitry that can malfunction down the road. i made my order just now at hoosierecig ($36) along with couple 18650 high drain batteries. cant wait to get it!

I am going to get one too...hopefully November 3 when the check comes in! I love my eGo T Mod, but am very interested in the mechanical mod and the telescoping feature (I have assorted battery sizes, and this will be perfect!) Plus...it looks cool! When I first started reading this thread it was back before the corrections were made to the design, and it was disheartening how negative people were being. Then there was about 3 pages of talk about the Olympic uniforms and American made goods. Finally arrived here (should have just skipped to most recent, I know) and I'm feeling SO much better. This is the PV I've been thinking about for awhile, and I'm glad to hear something POSITIVE about them!

My telescope is still performing flawlessly, a few more weeks and I think I'll invest in a couple of kicks (one for my Telescope and one for my Bolt). I wasn't going to bother kicking these devices, but after buying a VW mod, I'm hooked on variable wattage. Now that the telescope and bolt have proved to be reliable for me, I'll make the upgrade.

Can I run two AW lifepo4 batteries in this PV? I know it will work but am I in danger of a venting situation?

Here is the numbers. 6.4V 1.1ohm 5.81818 amps 37.23635 watts.

Seems hot I know but I only bump fire it for no more then 2 seconds and then the wick runs dry. The vapor production is nuts lol.

Dude! 37 watts?! You're right, it does seem hot. How's the flavor? And what kind of juice are you using that will hold up to that business?

Edit: I don't have an answer, because I've never even held one of these mods.

anyone notice that their gripper has a crooked 510 connection. I'm thinking of buying 1 second hand and he says it has a slight tilt in the 510 connection. I'm thinking about it but I am sort of .... about that sort of thing. Also, i'm pretty sure I've read the mod is chrome plated brass not copper.

Are you talking about the Telescope or the Gripper? My Telescope's connection is straight, not sure what it's made of, just know it works.

I finally decided to get one of these to see how it vaped. I have 4 Empires and it's longer and heavier than them, but not oppressively so. I got lucky in that the connector is not crooked. 6 people I know have ones that are crooked. I put a 18650 in it and didn't like that the top threads are exposed and it feels a bit wobbly, so use it with a 18490 in it. With a 18490 in it the body is nearly as long as an Empire with a 18650 in it, mainly due to that EGO type top cap.

This is used for taking out of the house when I don't want to expose one of my Empires to dirt, a possible drop, etc. At 45.00 and readily available vs 130.00 and never available it's a good tradeoff. Though it is cheaply made and heavy it's serviceable and if it dies it's possible to replace it.

I just got my black chrome ST telescope....and I love it! My 18650s..both button top and flat head work in it fine..no thread exposure. Love the solid feel and heft. Looks classy, too! And vapes GREAT! Totally sold on this. Feel NO need to go all status hungry and pay more for something just to say I did. This thing rocks!

seriously wishing I had one of these at least to hold in my hand before I buy. they sound great from your reviews. i mean a telescoping mod is what we all need/want, isn't it? Something that we can modify to suit our day. At home, you can use an 18650 or 2 3volt batteries for the rare occasion you'd like some 6 volt vaping... But out on the go, if you plan to go to the mall for a few hours, you can throw a smaller battery in and feel confident that you won't look like your vaping from a Goliath Device... I already have a fixed 3.7v device but I want a telescoping. Partly because back when i first started vaping I always wanted a telescoping mod, I saw myself with a silver bullet, a provape-1, a provari, and a telescoping mod. Those were my dreams. Now, I wish I could afford just about everything I see :D ...lol
