mmmm....I think the horrid smell doesnt come from mu Vmax but from a suspicious battery.

Will post a pic later tonight, its gory.

Well its later and here it is...its magnified a lot, this is only a tiny dot on my battery, had to really look for it meticulously...tought it was just crud or somesuch

I just tried a vivi nova on it, and it actually does fire (Im still worried though... It looks like its off, and I don't understand why it is showing the 123, 456, 789 thing all of a sudden?)

I'm on page 186 of 189 so hopefully you have found a solution by the time you read this.

I had the same problem on a couple of occasions but got it to work by trying different combinations of batteries. Finally discovered the spring in the cap wasn't making a good connection. Used a small needle nose plier to rotate the spring back and forth to make sure the surface between the spring and cap were clean then turned it clockwise until it felt firmly seated in the cap. Haven't had a problem since.

The VMAX is designed for HIGH DRAIN IMR batteries, and needs the constant/sustained amperage output that the IMR batteries have. The 18350 Ultrafire XSL's are a protected battery and don't have the amperage output needed for the VMAX. Most protected batteries have a constant amperage output of 3.2-4.5 Amps. A good/GREAT IMR battery has a Max Amperage output of 8-10 Amps and a sustained constant Amperage of 5-8 Amps.

Post #181 in this thread. Those batteries might have been asked to do more than they're designed to.

For anybody that wants to see what the Phoenix RA looks like on the VMax: Phoenix Rebuildable Atomizer (RA) Review - YouTube

Good job on the review Optimo. Interesting atty. I confess however that my DID has kind of spoiled me for other atomizers that accept less juice and I don't drip any more. The Phoenix appears to offer a decent compromise however, since as you say, it can hold 20 drops. I quickly grew tired of dripping 3-4 drops, take 4-5 draws, repeat endlessly, on a conventional dripping atty.

Thanks fuzzi...yeah I hear ya on that, the DID is nice. The Phoenix would be a downgrade for you pretty much. I change flavors so much through the day big tanks really don't do it for me.

Ultrafire XSL 1200mah...bastid still reads well, charges well and holds its charge well...of course Optimo,to the dead batteries bin it goes

These particular batteries , which were 1 of my 1st purchases for testing after I got the 1st Chrome VMAX, when tested, although they claim a high maH rating they really only tested out to 850maH at best and had a average discharge rate of 2.9amps. They absolutely will/may last longer because they have a much higher internal resistance which slows down the discharge and starves the device for amperage. The reason good batteries discharge faster and dont last as long(which is what you DO want) is due to a "true" IMR having a much lesser internal resistance, hince the phrase, "high drain". A IMR battery can basically exit it's power very quickly and VERY powerfully at a high Amperage output/discharge rate, where a pcb protected battery (ULTRAFIRE xsl) simply can NOT. Unfortunate that battery just can't keep up with the demands of a VMAX. In the VMAX's case you have to run a IMR and forget about what battery lasts the longest. The E'fest IMR's so far last a very long time and give the VMAX plenty of juice with some to spare.
Just my advice

Hey Opt...where you gettin your silica wick from??.....curiousity. TIA

Mike at Eshots hooked me up with some...other than that I haven't bought any from a vendor yet. Got any good spots to get silica or SS mesh on the cheap? I tried using some SS screen mesh I got from my old job but It's too damn thick.
