Hummm ... that looks reasonably sane, don't you think? This would be stepping down, correct?

Yep, Step down.

I'm not totally au fait when it comes to properly reading these measurements -
what are your opinions on the voltage and the percentage of the duty cycle?

Is the SS on Zmax just a SS coating, with brass on the inside?

Someone told me this today, but I don't really know what to think? (I doubt it, but who knows?)

I checked on the site I ordered mine from, and it actually does say "SS color"

And even the description at the site says that both the Chrome and SS versions are brass with a coating on the outside.

It won't make me cancel my order if its not solid SS, but it does kinda suck if its true...

There's a chrome and a steel - the steel is solid but won't be around until after the chrome, or so I've heard.

Yeah I ordered the stainless steel model (the store won't have it in stock until around the 25th. They'll get the chrome next week)

The site just had a pre-order offer (22 pounds discount on pre-orders)

All I know is from watching PBusardo reviews . I don't have one of these little scopes, but I've been thinking about one just as a learning tool. (Wouldn't it be nice to have one of those lil honeys like VAPNJ uses?!)

From what little I know, I think this screen capture shows the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) being output by the 18350 stack. Since I believe that battery voltages add in series, this would make the stack of two 3.5V batts look look like a nominal 7V source; theoretically, depending on the state of charge, the voltage available could effectively be as high as 8.4V. From what I see on the scope, it looks to me like this is delivering an average voltage of 3.16V, which it does by applying the maximum voltage available (is that 7.52V, Vmax? or is it 7.71V, Vpp? IDK.) 43.4% of the time and nothing the rest of the time. Apparently, it does this about 50 times a second (I think that's what the 50.3Hz mean).

This is only a static shot, so you can't really tell (you'd have to see the scope display vary over time), but the square wave looks quite clean and regular, without the characteristic spikes that the Vmax typically displayed at the beginning of each cycle ...

Now, someone like JAPNJ who really know what they're talking about will be along shortly to point out how idiotic I am, but that's what I see in this picture ... YMMV

I always pay more attention to the Vrms, that's where it kinda counts. And according to that screenshot it's showing 3.59v. That's basically the same as the VMAX's Vrms. The VMAX even with the V2 unit works at about .5 -.6 volts higher than than what it's set at, which corresponds to feel of the unit and vape also...atleast with me it does.

Honestly the unit I have feels much different than the VMAX in feel. My numbers basically show pretty close to what his show on my Lecroy 312-A Wavejet except the duty cycle, I'm showing 28%. Which would explain the feel part to me. Now when I used my portable scope (same as in the screenshot) it shows a 43% duty cycle @ 60 Hz. Which one do I trust.......my Lecroy wavejet ofcourse. And yes all the settings line up the same to do the test from the portable to the Lecroy. And no I have'nt quite figured out why the difference in that particular number yet....other than maybe the information could be altered from going thru the adapter attachment, kinda makes sense.....but I could only 'speculate' right now.

Oh and Scott...your far from an idiot...your using a VMAX ...right? I think were all pretty smart in this thread, look at the device we use. lol.
Take care everyone.

Dirk....your absolutely right. The 1st wave of Zmax's will only be Chrome as far as I've know and have been told. SS will be very soon after as Smoktech now knows the SS is in just as high demand if not higher due to the amount of quality that goes into the SS naturally because of the raw material. The SS is just simply PREMO IMO ofcourse.

Well, actually I'm awaiting my Zmax; it's on its way from Shek's co-op ... I'm just reading everything I can so when it finally arrives I'll know what to expect. As you can imagine, I'm quite anxious ...

Right now, my main toot is a Kicked Legacy with the 18650 extension tube and one of my lovely Penelopes on top with a full load of Boba's Bounty inside @ 7.5 Watts. I get a major chuckle whenever you rhapsodize about your love affair with your Penny, cuz I know EXACTLY what you mean! Ain't she sweet? I just got a couple of Kir Fanis' clear tanks, and while she's lovely in her formal stainless steel, when Penny slips into something sheer ... well!

Well I'll guess I'll say it again then....Man I LOVE MY PENELOPE !!!!! Curious Scott.....how often do you rebuild your coil/wick ?
With my special made mix that I worked with Cindy on at Gourmet Vapor, 'my RY4', I'm rebuilding it everyday to keep the optimal great flavor. That's the only juice I vape in it so far because it's my all day everyday with a side kick of ECBlends RY4 that is a carto/coil/atty/everything killer, having to refill a new Fusion daily for it to be a good enjoyable vape. Every Genny type atty that I put these 2 flavors in, the flavor was either absolutely non-existant or changed so much it was just awful. It seems these 2 particular juices actually benefit from the filler in the carto or silica wicking.....and obviously the Penny is the 1st rebuildable type atty that my all day vape tastes perfect in even 10x's better than a carto. Any thoughts....?.....

Never be ashamed to say "I love you" to your Penny! She purrs when you do ...

Actually, my only complaint about the Penelope is that the coils last too durn long!! I keep wishing the one I've got on there now would go bad, or get funky, or something (!) so I would have an excuse to build another one ... I've got 100' of brand-new 33 gauge Kanthal A-1 and 100' of .999 dead soft silver, and all I've ever made is one coil! I hit 2.3 Ohms the very first try, and that was over a week ago! It's only gotten better and better, and I've run at least three full tanks through it ... I started my fourth tank just today. I did dink around with the ready-made wire that came with the unit, and I also built a 2.8 Ohm coil from some 36 gauge Kanthal that the previous owner of my other Penelope sent me, but other than that ...

The only thing I've figured out about the Penny is that she MUST be completely neutralized. Once you've torched everything torchable (ceramic, wire, and wick) and steam-cleaned everything else at least three times, then she's really ready to deliver the unadulterated taste she's so famous for. I'm not kidding, driving her with the Kick @ 7.5 watts from a freshly-charged battery gives you the cleanest, clearest, most detailed taste you'll ever get from a PV. I actually think it tastes better than dripping, and I've compared the Penny against a nicely broken-in Joye 2.4 Ohm atty using the same juice in both, and I really think I get more and better taste from the Penny!

How are you getting along with yours? Have you tried cotton wick yet? That's my next project, if the current coil will ever give up the ghost ... :D

I've got the cotton, the Nextel 4mm cord, cheesecloth, but are only using the 3 0r 3.5mm silica wick so far till I do a bit more research on preparation of the alternatives wick materials.....any aid or help you think you could give or be my PM box is always welcome to new ideas....ALWAYS. I'm literally HAVING to rebuild my wick/coil every single day. I guess it's my juice, not sure. Open for more ideas there. I'm using the 3-3.5mm silica with Nichrome wire and I'm almost out of the NR silver. I wish mine came with even 1 pre-made coil wire when I got it so I have a baseline to go by but It didn't. I have 28,30,32,33,34,36awg Kanthal but everytime I use it I get that hot pinpoint needle TH in the back of my throat that I absolutely HATE. I don't care for hot TH or needle point TH. I like the TH that gives you that THUMP in the back of your throat so good from the massively thick milky white vapor that is sooooo thick you get a VAPORRRR TH !!! I roll 3/4 coil to come out to 1.7-2.2Ω depending on wick size thickness. I either use it on my YJ Chrome V2 @ 3-3.5 volts.....or my V/ZMAX @ 3-3.4 volts. To me the Nichrome just tastes sooo much better in the Penny over the Kanthal....and I've used every awg I have. Have a feeling I'm going to be without my Penny for a week or so due to no NR wire, very low on wick and maybe 2 coils worth left of Nichrome. I did finally find 2 people on the classies that both have 2 Kir Fanis clear PEN windows for sale for $25 and $30 bucks for both. Very cool. Now just need to find a good price on the other stuff. I have 2 full 20"x15" sheets of SS mesh 325 & 400 that I'll probably never use again and probably end up throwing away but the few materials I do need ....I don't have. Now how sad is that. I had a pretty good bit when I 1st got the Penny,... or so I thought. I honestly didn't think I would run out this fast, gotta be this juice. I haven't touched my Genny's since I got the Pen...nor do I plan to....they just DONT compare. And your right, it does taste better than dripping, right after I read your previous thought I did the same on a few different atties, 1 being a .357.....STILL DOESN'T TOUCH THE PENELOPE !!! 'IMO' The flavor is AMPLIFIED to say the least and you can taste things in your juice you never have before.

The Penelope looks SOOOOOO GOOD on the V&ZMAX. Meant to be I think.

Do you guys know of any Genesis attys other than the Bliss and Cobra that can run a dual coil or U-wick setup?

Im running a dual coil setup on my Orion 2.1, and love it. I really want a genesis atty with a dual coil setup for mig Vmax (and Zmax when it arrives)

I just need some names/suggestions, and then i'll buy whatever I can get the fastest...

1st off they all take some time to get whether it be a pre-order on ecf and wait 3-6 months for it or wait for people to get theirs from the same type situation then post it up on the classies after finding out it's not for them. I believe the SG-V3 mini has the ability of dual wicks/U-wick setups. It's suppose to be very nice although my 1st prefernce would probably be the cobra, that Genatty just looks amazing. The Hellfire mega/mini are dual wick capable but are near impossible to aquire. I'll let you know about the SG-V3 after I get mine. I may not keep it as I found my love affair with my Penny, SS mesh just doesn't compare. All my Genatty's are heading to the classies after my close friends get their pick of the litter. Hope this helps ya. Take care.

Thanks ;)

I might just go for a Penelope instead.

I've seen a lot of them for sale on different sites. Most of them at a ridicolous price tags though (People seem to want double of what they paid themself lol, but I don't care to much about the price, if I can get it right away)

I'll look forward to hearing about the SG-v3 :)

Keep your eye on the classies here...I've seen well over 8-10 Pennys for sell for $105-$130. That should be the going rate if the seller is being fair and honest. And half of those came with wick/coil/ and a Kir Fanis clear tank. Don't pay more than that, just try to be patient , trust me it will happen. If I see 1 that is in this price range I'll shoot you a PM and give you the info,'if ya like', you gotta be quick tho, I've watched em come on the classies and literally 5 min later their sold that fast.

Got my SS. It is small! Quite lightweight compared to the Lavatube SS or Provari. The menu is ok, there's a learning curve.
Things I've tried and worked well: 1,5 ohm HH, io6 HV, Mini Nova 4,0 ohms, V3 Stardust, DC Tank. Good airflow on all. Button works flawless.
Tried with 18650 Panasonic 3100 and Efest 18650 IMRs. Also worked with 16340s, though they seemed a littles too long.
The vw seems to work, however I doubt 3w is three watts and 15 is fifteen. No equipment to test unfortunately.
My IKV XLR did not work (measured 1,2 ohms).

Since most of you probably own the VMax and/or Provari's, let me ask this here instead of on the VMax thread. Do any of you use Dual Coil cartos? What would you run a 2.0ohm dualie at?

I'm a 8.0 - 8.5watt kinda vaper, and usually have my 2.8 ohm single coils set at 4.8v.

Curious..

From previously calculated wattages (via Ohm's law) on other devices I found I was running 8 ~ 9 watts.

I just picked up a VMax tonight and find myself setting it to 8.0 or 8.5 watts depending on the juice no matter how many ohms the 'cooker' is.

I've tried 2.2ohm ST carto, 2.4ohm Boge carto, 2.6ohm LX carto, 2.6ohm vivi nova tank, 2.9ohm Boge and 1.8ohm 510 dripping atty. All worked great w/o touching any setting.

Will play with the DC stuff, 801 and 901 'cookers' later tonight.

Got mine HERE.

PS: And I know on the website it only has "chrome" but I'd swear this thing is steel from looking in the cap and inside of the tube. If it is chrome somebody did a heck of a plating job as I couldn't tell it from my SS VMax. But who knows...

PPS: Running mine on a CGR18650CH. AW IMR 1600 button top also fits as did a generic unprotect ICR (just checking fit) but not TrustFire 'golden flame 3k' (again, just checking fit). I'm told the AW IMR 2000 is longer than the 1600mAh so if button top it might be long. I also had a couple of the Shek GB CGR re-wraps wich are an eck longer due to thicker wrap and heaver isolator board on top. These fit but just barely and I had to put the bottom cap on the battery first.

PPPS: Can we all agree that a LT is a boost mod. So if I put a fresh CGR in it that's charged to 4.15v and vape at 3.5v what is it doing? Right, it's effectively stepping down (buck) from the input voltage. So let's say I made the same boost chip but now it could handle an input voltage range from 3.4v to 9v... 1 circuit and it's still a 'boost' circuit. For some reason I really suspect that's what the ZMax is. No dual circuits, no majic battery sensing, just a wide input range boost circuit. BTW, did u note in the Polish thing that it would only go to 12.5watts on a 4.1volt input and needed the 8v input to do 15 watts... or did I read that into it?

It's magical because it was the first VV device ever made of it's kind in the US and ...
It was preceded by the Buzz Pro in the VV tube mod arena... unless "of it's kind" means the "Provari Jig" electronic adjustment we now so dearly love. ;-)
