Good morning Fran, Tibs, CES, Catt, Bear, Atty, and Snails! :) Have a good day today

The continued problems getting to the first unread post are making it less and less rewarding to spend time on ECF...
I miss that most of all too!! 15,000 "Likes" for this post

Feel better soon Atty . . .

It's 23° here....On Sunday, they said it would be in the 40s today

@ stone - last broadway show i saw was ''evita'' must have been 1980 or so
That's okay. I only usually only enjoy plays, and I'm not a big fan of musicals  I kind of "fell into" this as a career. I despise show tunes

I really like Martin McDonagh's work though...he writes very dark comedies. I worked on The Lieutenant of Inishmore, but The Pillow Man is so far my favorite of his plays.

Hi snails. :)

Hot off the presses:
Today's installment of "AttyPops's rating news and rants":

It's a 1 to 5 Grrrrr Scale. (obviously, only applies to Grrrrr level things. Happy things do not appear. So the rating of 1 Grrrrr is BETTER than a rating of 5 Grrrrr's)
AttyPops's ratings for the Health insurance situation in USA:

I quit smoking almost 4 years ago. Just use e-cigs. Yet...I'm stilll penalized for e-cig use. Grrrr.
The silver PPO was too expensive right now. Ended up with an HMO :(

Atty's either gonna fry-pan me, or never speak to me again, but here I go...

... is there a way to tell the difference between nicotine absorbed via traditional smoking versus e-cig liquid?

If there is NOT a way, then I believe "they" must treat it all the same way. e-cig nic is derived from tobacco. I am probably a Benedict Arnold, but I do see nic=tobacco. Until they can discern a difference and/or take our word for it (fat chance), "they" are kind of stuck.

Went through this many moons ago with "he-who-is-ignored" over in the Outside... and I guess my stance has not changed.

I believe the "usual" test for tobacco use is to analyze for nicotine's metabolite cotinine. Nicotine use poses no extraordinary health risks (see all the snus research, + now NRTs are no longer time-limited use). The extraordinary health risks associated with tobacco do appear to be related to the combustion of tobacco.

ETA:
semi-correction: FDA says you should quit using NRTs after x weeks; but you don't have to if you are having trouble quitting smoking.

FDA is allowing the companies who make these OTC products to make several changes to the warnings and limitations in the directions for use on their labels to allow some flexibility on how they are used and for how long. These changes mean the following for consumers:

There are no significant safety concerns associated with using more than one OTC NRT at the same time, or using an OTC NRT at the same time as another nicotine-containing product—including a cigarette. If you are using an OTC NRT while trying to quit smoking but slip up and have a cigarette, you should not stop using the NRT. You should keep using the OTC NRT and keep trying to quit.

NRT users should still pick a day to quit smoking, and begin using the OTC NRT product on their "quit" day, even if they aren't immediately able to stop smoking.

Users of NRT products should still use the product for the length of time indicated in the label—for example, 8, 10 or 12 weeks. However, if they feel they need to continue using the product for longer in order to quit, it is safe to do so in most cases. Consumers are advised to consult their health care professional if they feel the need to use an OTC NRT for longer than the time period recommended in the label.

The web site's definition of what constitutes tobacco use is non-existent. However, the insurance company considers all nic use tobacco use...So gum and patches as well. Thus I answered "Yes" although I haven't smoked in nearly 4 years...just because I use "alternative nicotine". I posted links to stories about this a while back.

So "they" got ya... coming or going.
