G'mornin, snails!

I vaped @ 30W for the first time last night and there was no 'sploshun!

Happy *bleeper* *bleepin* Friday!!!!111!!!one21!23!123!!!3133!21 (the bleeps are for bear, btw :D )

Just curious - what flavor (if any) did you use for vaping at 30W? If flavor, could you taste it? :)

I think my CGR batts are getting a bit long in the tooth, I may pick up some VTCs in the not too distant future and chase some clouds for an evening :D (half a dozen vapes of a high VG would be it, just 'cause :D)

I believe it was two flavors - a Mad Murdock Maha Ras/Cutter mix (75/25) & Nicoticket's Grap3 Ap3. I could absolutely taste both. What I'm noticing is that the type of coil build affects the vape at higher wattages. For the foray into 30W, I was using a dual mini-coil build with cotton.

I was lucky with my Protovapor XPV...when I ordered it at the beginning of March, they only had the VTC4 available (among two other 18650 battery options). Towards the end of the 4-6 week lead time, they changed battery options when they received a supply of VTC5s. Protovapor automatically upgraded my mod to the VTC5 before shipping it out. :thumb:

The watts are only part of the story as you know....and like mad said...the coil build matters. Basically Catt, since they are heating 28 ga (or even 26 ga coat-hanger-ish wire) they need the watts just to get that low resistance wire warm. So basically, it's all about the wire ga and how it spreads the heat over an area of wick. Probably some function of heat per cubic mm. Heat being a function of wire gauge too.

They may "waste" more of the energy bringing the greater thermal mass of the heavy wire up to temp compared to the thinner wire. But it probably acts a lot like a "heat capacitor" in the circuit. The cooling down after releasing the button would be wasted heat. Also they probably spend more time dissipating that energy into the device and end up with real warm toppers.

I've since switched to a dual micro-coil using 30ga from the dual mini-coil using 28ga. I've oriented the coils so that they're horizontal instead of vertical and have also used hemp to wick around the outside of the coil instead of through the coil. I also managed to keep it at a "conservative" 0.8Ω.

The flavor is fantastic...it wasn't my intent, but the build produces moderately heavy clouds. 24W was just on the edge of too much...22W is just about perfect.

I don't understand that "ruling". Nor CASAA's reading of it. So it's all Greek to me.

To me, the small mom-and-pop vape shop is NOT the manufacturer of the e-liquid base. Anymore than a restaurant is the manufacturer of the imported olive oil they use in the vinaigrette. Does the restaurant have to submit samples for testing/approval just because they use the imported olive oil? (I'm obviously making that example up...IDK if olive oil manufacturers are even required to test stuff.)

So, to me at least, there's only a few "sources" for nic base. And they are the ones that have to submit the testing. All the small shops just use nic-base from lot #xxxxxxxxx.
