Do you get to stay home today CES? :D

I do. Nobody's going nowhere yet today.

The people who were stranded on the freeways all night are getting shuttled home or to "warming stations" first. I'm guessing a delayed start tomorrow too, since we won't likely be above freezing before then and there are a crap-ton of cars to retrieve or tow before roads are passable.

Nah, they just have to figure out what sorta super-dooper-amazing anti-freeze that leech has, then I roll up my sleeve and they shoot me up wit' it.

:D :D :D :p  :D

So glad they have volunteers for that already. It would make cryogenic sleep and intrastellar travel a possibility. :D

There goes all the federal disaster relief funds......watch. And not just you. And I'm not slamming. It's just....I hope they doubled that budget. It's not even spring yet.

Did they declare a state of emergency?

Delaware's '3 Tier State of Emergency system'

"In order to help clarify the Level 1 Driving Warning during the State of Emergency declared by Governor Markell last week, below is a summarization of the law and what the three-level driving system means.

In 2010, Delaware legislation* was enacted to increase flexibility for greater public safety by limiting travel during times of emergency. Designed to provide more clarity to drivers, the state developed a three-level driving system that may be put in effect by the governor during a State of Emergency for all or parts of Delaware based on conditions.

The three driving levels are:

• Level 1 Driving Warning: Travel on the roads is not restricted but drivers shall exercise extra caution in the operation of their motor vehicle while on the road.

• Level 2 Driving Restriction: Travel on the roads is restricted to emergency workers, public utilities, healthcare providers including hospital staff, public and private operators of snow removal equipment, private sector food and fuel deliveries, and those industries, companies or organization that have been provided a waiver, including businesses with pressing continuity and operational issues.

• Level 3 Driving Ban: Travel on the roads is banned except for first responders, utility personnel, and public or private snow removal. Level 2 Driving waivers are not in effect when there is a Level 3 Driving Ban.

morning, mr catt!

no rain in the forecast so far for sunday in nyc, atty ;)

and i'm sure ces is home - she is, after all, without transportation! :D

Yep, just a short 3 mile walk...whew!

Did they declare a state of emergency?

Yep, they were expecting the snow further south, so they declared one before the snow started- ostensibly to prevent price gouging. They declared a civil emergency while i was still in my car. less than two blocks in an hour seems not so bad, when i read about the 8-10 hours it took some people to go 5-10 miles. A lot of the people still on the freeways or in shelters left work at about 11:30 am, just as i did.

And, while they won't expand medicare, i would be very surprised if they rejected federal money for this mess.

She did walk home from the parking garage...............

I assume the reverse works...if the roads are passable.

My boss lives about a mile from me and got his car home, so i can get a ride back in. Or i could walk again. The exercise would be good for me.

Southerners can't drive on slippery roads, and there are pileups that blocked lots of the smaller roads, especially those with hills. But some of the impassible sections on the interstates and major travel arteries were blocked by semi-trucks that also slid on the snow.

Delaware is close to Washington...so I'm not surprised they came up with a complicated 4 tier system (including 0).

Basically, just tell em "stay off the roads".

Snow plows ignore it. So do first responders and utilities. People with emergencies or whatnot risk it....like medicine runs, whatever.

Government exists to continually make new rules. again. Been snowing since before mass transit. You'd think we'd have this all figured out already.

Usually they close everything when snow is predicted, because we don't have the infrastructure or the experience to deal with it. The computer models were wrong about where the weather would go, when it would get here and how much it would be. Instead of a dusting we got the first inch in less than an hour. The last time they blew a forecast this badly in this manner was in the early 80's...and the effect was similar. They blew forecasting for the blizzard of 93 also... so every decade or two isn't too horrible of a track record. We'll be talking about this for the next 30 years too

Mass transit? we don't have that either.
