I do. Nobody's going nowhere yet today.

The people who were stranded on the freeways all night are getting shuttled home or to "warming stations" first. I'm guessing a delayed start tomorrow too, since we won't likely be above freezing before then and there are a crap-ton of cars to retrieve or tow before roads are passable.

Usually they close everything when snow is predicted, because we don't have the infrastructure or the experience to deal with it. The computer models were wrong about where the weather would go, when it would get here and how much it would be. Instead of a dusting we got the first inch in less than an hour. The last time they blew a forecast this badly in this manner was in the early 80's...and the effect was similar. They blew forecasting for the blizzard of 93 also... so every decade or two isn't too horrible of a track record. We'll be talking about this for the next 30 years too

Mass transit? we don't have that either.

 Yeah...you Southerners can't drive in the snow. But when they showed it on the news this morning(all them people stuck on the highways)it looked more like ice on the road and by the way people were trying to walk...I think it's the ice that screwed you all.

Morning Haze, Cnew and Meggers.

It's ice now and likely the snow was packed down into ice pretty quickly. It's sounding mor eand more like the roads had deteriorated almost an hour before they started sending people home.

Haze, how close are you to the Atlanta snowpocalypse? Atlanta makes us look like we're in pretty reasonable shape. It also looks like your politicians are getting lots of heat for not-pretreating the roads.

Hi CES!!

Luckily I'm north of the mess and yes, it's ugly. The local authorities definitely got caught with their pants down and it's hard to figure out why. We knew Atlanta was going to get some snow, granted not as much as ended up falling but still. They should have had the situation better in hand but didn't even start to do anything until the snow showed up. I guess they were hoping it was going to be light or pass by entirely ...

Glad that you're well out of that mess Haze. I know here that the models were wrong and they just flat out blew the forecast.

Thank You!

I'm glad you got home safe too; it was pretty hazardous where you were for certain!

The forecasts I saw all indicated that Atlanta was likely to get around 3'' of snow, which isn't a lot relatively speaking but as you well know, in this part of the country, even that little bit of snow causes big problems. I won't even bother getting into the idiot drivers portion of the equation ... :D

I've yet to see, in recent times, government handling a situation such that everyone is happy. They do the best they can.

People are never happy.

They can do more, if you pay for more.

People hate paying more.

lol.

Politics.

Still, I take your point. They totally missed the forecasts and had the trucks in the wrong area, as I hear it. I'm glad you're OK. I hope that whatever "they" do is sufficient. Wishing you and all there good luck and a safe snow day.

They forecast 3 inches for you? if they called the snow beforehand, then they really did mess up by not pretreating the roads. Here at least they just had bad information.

Atty, you have a point...they get lambasted here for cancelling when nothing happens...and for cancelling at the height of a storm.

Good morning Katya :)
