 Hi Stone and Bear! So...was husbear all in a snit last night over the phone thing?

"All in a Snit".

No, he did not do or say much except he's looking into alternatives. He was fairly OK with just having phone and DSL back.

Not sure is "snit" is accurate. If we are PAYING for 6mbs+ service, but not even getting 3, then I think a terse call is well justified.

Would you be happy paying ... oh ... $3.50* a gallon for gas, but the pump dispensing only 8oz for that $3.50*???

* Or whatever the going rate is in your area.

Would you be "in a snit" with them???

 Oh yeah! And first I'd be in a snit if I couldn't understand the person I was talking to. Hell...I'm at Verizon frequently .....ing about my phone reception and the pop ups for their products. I hate that chit! You pay for stuff and it's supposed to do this or that and it doesn't. I have a 4g phone. Do I ever SEE 4g's on my phone? Helllllll no!

So Bear can't get cable. Distance from switch and line quality matter with DSL. DSL sucks compared to other options these days. Unless you're Tibs. She'd love it because it would be an upgrade.

We can get cable. Cable degrades with number of users on "the line". It's currently also about 62% more expensive, and increases annually.

We've been at the same monthly cost for 10... maybe 12... years. Just renewing "introductory fee" every two years. But that does NOT make slow service acceptable.

We do know there is a fiber optic line not more than 1/5 mile from the house. Husbear is looking into who is providing that service... and if we can tap into it. We know the terminus is an extension of a local university. But I'm positive it would cost more than we are now paying.

See... it's the being TRAPPED (due to cost) into inferior service that is annoying. AND the provider KNOWING they have us by the (very) short and curlies. *
