morning, mr bear!

for atty - ground is so wet i barely got the sweet feed down to the barn with the ''tractor'' ;) since then we had all that snow and rain. it's a mud hole ........... sigh

Can't you leave the 50-pound bag(s) in one place, but just tote a bucket/meal down one at a time?

Gonna try my first-ever attempt at wood staining today... the molding around the sliding door. It has draw curtains, so I will use the vertical piece that is hidden by the drawn curtains as practice. It's raw wood, so a conditioner goes on first. I have all the needed materials and stuff.

Any hints? I plan on using a brush... any argument for opting for the wipe-on method instead???

Time them all equally. Then wipe/brush off. Or just leave the stain on in an even coat. Depends on what it looks like and what you're after. Finish will change the color too (like varnish/clear coat).

So... use a rag to smooth out after brushing on?

I did not plan to "finish" until it's completely done (stained). I figure that would allow for any "adjustments" to be made.

See... I just KNEW it would have been better to have pre-finished (matched to door) molding put on. But I was thinking: There are two other doorways in very close proximity and ... at some point ... I'd have the molding replaced around them to match the sliding door. But that will never happen.

Just another example of ALWAYS letting the pros do the work while I sit on the deck and just watch.

the sweet feed is in the barn - it's the hay that needs to get there ;)

bear, both methods are fine. i'd recommend practicing on a plain piece of wood first ;) if you apply more than one coat don't forget to sand in between!
if you got the kind that needs a finish coat listen to atty! it will change the coloring quite a bit! that's why making a sample really, really helps!

you are not smoothing out - you are removing excess stain! brush or cloth, either one will work fine

Morning all :)

~~~~~~ Waving at Stone :D
Tracfone finally decided to offer "smart"phones; so ordered a ZTE Valet (Android 4.1) from Amazon. Still refuse to sign up for any monthly plan phone; I put 120 minutes on my tracfone ~6 months ago - I still have more than 100 minutes on it. Hoping to retire the iPod Touch and the "dumb"phone with the Valet.
morning, catt, pepper and mad! ;)
here we go ........................
Moderate to heavy rain with gusty winds...
A line of moderate to heavy showers stretching from Lexington
Virginia... toward Roanoke Virginia... and to Yadkinville North
Carolina... will race to the northeast over the North Carolina and
Virginia Piedmont during the next couple hours. Brief downpours
will cause ponding of water on roadways... and drop visibilities to
a quarter of a mile. Winds could also gust up to 40 mph.
back to my chores - oscar had his bath, next up > spark
