The State will call me. Sigh.

No, they wont. I had an untold-number promised state call-backs and received ZERO. The only thing that helped was having my insurance provider do interventions with the state... they were VERY GOOD at getting things moving and having my 8 policies (!!!) reduced to 1.

I think the way things vary from state-to-state really blows. If ACA is a federal program, then the processes SHOULD be identical across the country. As I mentioned before, all NY wanted was a yes/no answer to "will 2014 be like 2012". I said "no" and was THEN able to continue through the process. (THAT question was NOT there for all of October and some of November... which was causing my original problems).

Do you, Atty, know what happens if: Someone (say, you) in your state goes Medicaid for 2104, but at year-end your income is above the limit? How do they handle that situation? Is it worth the possible problems to just GO that way and see?

I'm on the other side of the fence... I self-qualified myself for ACA-just-barely-within-cents but I KNOW my 2014 MAGI will put me in Medicaid territory. I'm kind of sure they'll do nothing retroactive for 2014, BUT it MAY cause problems at 2016 sign-up (not 2015 because final 2014 numbers will not be available in November this year).

Another thing I'm interested to see is what happens to my 2014 subsidy with the low low low MAGI... will I be eligible for an even larger subsidy - via refund - or is the $226/month the maximum? That's a wait-and-see I suppose.

Whatevers!!! It's just about Summer and I'm not going to give it much thought until the time comes. Unfortunately, you need to still deal with it and I hope you have some cooperation.

The other thing, Bear, is that if the insurance company says "You're covered" and they choose not to cancel me if I send THEM the spreadsheet, they will cover me...I suppose. IDK. I'll have to ask them.

The quagmire is (for you or for me) that cut-off point and having any insurance company contest it later and possibly having to pay back $$$, and if you "switch" to/from medicaid...how the money is "made up" or distributed over time.

Basically, in your case you could have Husbear "gift" you some $$$ to make your 2014 income in the ACA range and not have any issues if you're close. And no, that wasn't supposed to be a joke. lol.

If he had enough to "gift", then he would be "retired" right along with me!!! (Which opens a whole OTHER can of worms!!! :) And I'll refrain from any further comment... except to say that "me time" is priceless.)

Or... I could cash out enough investments so the capital gains put me in ACA territory. But then I lose future growth AND have a boatload of cash on hand... which c/would make 2015 MAGI $0. And that process could be done only so many time(s) before all those capital gains investments run dry.

No... the fun is to be had later this year when I can rant and rave HERE how the whole thing STILL sucks prong regardless of how little I am paying for such good benefits. Whine-a-rama.

I think that's a gubmint thang at tax time. The insurance provider is simply getting $$$ from DC and that's all THEY care about. When that subsidy flow from Fed->Ins stops, problems ensue. I was fortunate/lucky that for SOME REASON, my long-time provider actually did something for me that - really - was NOT their job. How did they know I would even choose them at checkout time? But I would expect them to drop me like a hot potato if/when DC cuts me off for some/anything.

For me, it's entirely wait and see. I refuse to believe I am completely unique in this scenario. There is a LOT of game playing going on and how the feds decide to cover all bases will be interesting.

Back outdoors with me!!!

How the heck do I know what I'll make before I make it? It's irritating.

Yep... YOU need to prove it whereas MY word was acceptable. Who knows... maybe I'll need to "prove it" come November enrollment.

It's not a level playing field across the US of A. And I thought - correct me if I'm wrong - that one of the touted benefits of ACA was to MAKE health care a "level playing field" for each and every citizen. (OK... I am approaching an area dangerously between Lounge and Outside... would that be "The Breezeway" or "Mud Room"? Backing off.)
