Well, you have to have license info first and....it's a bit complicated to explain. The system restore may have an option to put it back to "factory settings". This kind of stuff varies by PC a bit (many have a restore partition. You'd also need any upgrade CD's or files or licenses for stuff purchased afterwards).

Basically, it's not something I'm comfortable helping with since I can't see your screen and don't have all the up-to-date stuff like a computer store will.

If it's a software problem, and you talk to someone in person at a computer store and bring it in, they may be able to help you (check their reputation first online).
But, if there's a hardware problem of some kind, you'd still be unhappy after paying them $$$$.

My guess is the hardware is OK and the software is messed up. But there's a lot of upgrades to install and ....well...you'd want a very fast connection to do that too.

Best to either decide to "take it in" or decide to get a new one (donate the old one to charity/family, or sell it, after removing the disk drives...don't let it just collect dust and get old.)
Turn it into a webserver... :p

And there is a saying i just made up but is true... "Windows Vista and 8, the windows that never should have been" or optionally "...the windows delivered to your house broken"

lol.

Bah...Win 8 is fine. Vista sucked. Not even a close comparison IMHO.
People just like stuff to complain about.
8 is faster, has an app interface, bug fixes, security fixes, standard desktop too (no menu but meh). Hyper-V is good too. Supports tablets and touch....the list goes on. A few just like to complain or don't want to change. Maybe they get confused with new stuff. IDK. The desktop is still the desktop.
It's solid but people hate the UI changes. But they want apps.
IDK why they got rid of the menu, but they are bringing it back in 10. So meh again I guess. All in all I'd rather be on the most recent one for security purposes if nothing else.

Then there's Tibs. ;) :p
Night Sniffle. :)

What a wonderful morning. I reported a problem to Microsoft and did windows updates last night. Tigger jumped up on the bed at 3;30 am and woke me up.:)

I wouldn't normally be thrilled about Tigger waking me up so early but he hasn't been able to jump up on the bed for awhile now.

A test the phone co tech had me run wouldn't work and had a bad result indicating computer problems. This morning the test ran as it should and my download speed is 7.1.

So who cares if it';s pouring rain.

    Good morning y'all

been playing with data this moring- had something i wanted to check to see if it works- i think it does.

Glad your 'puter seems to be running again, Fran. If not, just get an external keyboard and mouse for your laptop and use it as a desktop

So, I have a question...what happens if a someoe gets the nickle coils but doesn't have a DNA 40 board with temperature control? will the PV fire? will it melt the coil? stress the battery?

...and it seems that it's already time to go to work. sigh.

    have a good one y'all

Good morning Tibs, Fran, Gracie, CES.

    Glad your data worked CES...???

Glad your computer is working Fran. Yep...software issues. :p Typical. You should be applying updates as they come out though...????...but yeah, remote support can work too (just like the computer store support can work). Don't let just anyone do it though. There's a lot of scammers claiming to be from "windows support" or from MSoft and they install spyware on your system and try charging fees for doing nothing. So watch out for scam calls...they are all over the place! If YOU initiate support from MSoft and get it, that's different. That's OK. But if you get a call out of the blue...be cautious. Probably just hang up.
