and i'm not any closer when it comes to the counter - wanting a plain white i never expected this problem 
IN the course of avoiding doing any actual work, i happened to turn over my keyboard...and saw this huge warning label in the back of it.
(i wonder there is any way to use it as an excuse for my awful typing)

White marble is nice.
most have grey veins and they need to be sealed every year - also very easily stained
And they crack. Just saying.
Hello Frannie! White marble? Too white. I like sand/beige/rose marble. What I have is black (with white/gray sparkles) Caesarstone.

Just say'n. But "real" stuff...you can sand or polish. The laminates you "just" replace....

hiya, squashed atty! i was forced into the default skin - couldn't take the spinning wheel anymore! roly is worse than ms when it comes to forcing something down someone's throat!
the stain penetrates rather deep - major expense getting the whole counter sanded and polished
no marble on my list of possibles!
how can i when i'm stuck in rural virginia? it might take a road trip ......... sigh
