What the ANTZ are really worried about is that vaping will be a "fad" and also addict the new generations on nicotine. A legitimate, if often over stressed and over estimated, phenomenon.
I don't know how to address that. The genie is out of that particular bottle anyway, since e-cigs are all over the place in continence stores n such.

That comparison might just work Atty.

It's not something i want to address in the letter, but there is some indirect evidence, or lack thereof, that suggests that nicotine administered by itself to naive subjects (in a couple of studies related to the possible therapeutic effects of nicotine) does not create an addiction. For example, people wearing the patch for 6 months did not develop a nic addiction. It may be that it takes more than just the nicotine -perhaps the other components in smoking or whole tobacco sensitize people, or maybe the dosages used didn't, but higher nicotine doses might... I dunno for sure, or even whether i completely buy the argument. But it is possible that the fear of getting a bunch of people hooked on nicotine is at least is worth questioning.

here's what i've been doing on this rainy morning. It's just a draft and i need to let it sit for awhile so that i can come back and see the inevitable typos, lapses in logic, things i've left out and incomplete sentences. But at least it's a start. I also updated my full reference list and sent it out to the people who wanted copies of it.

Very nice--make sure that your reference list is good, scientific and long! :D You're talking to fellow academics, after all--they can tell real studies from fake ones. The more MDs and PhDs you quote, the better. And former surgeons general! ;)

Heya Katya :)

One side effect of working at a research university is that no one is all that impressed with phd's - everyone has 'em, they're more impressed by md, but we're a medical school and there are lots of them around too. At least my citations are all from peer reviwed journals.

One of the things i've been trying to figure out how to use is the fact that the current president of one of the cancer societies is at uab. I don't know him and i'm way too small a fish to have access. Actually, turns out that the owner of one of the local vape shops has known him for years. The vape shop owner idn't know that his friend/aquantance was president of an antz group. I believe the vape shop owner was going to make it a point to contact him.

I do need to make sure that i have a Carmona reference :D

I know--believe me. But they are more likely to pay attention if your studies come from reputable medical and research centers, research hospitals, universities and from papers published in good medical journals like Lancet and NEJM... :D

Oh, and anything with the word "royal" makes an impression, as in London's Royal Society... ;)
