frannie, when i put something up it stays up 
and i could have sworn i put that prep underneath supposed to make removal a cinch and working overhead is no longer as easy as it used to be

They make this inexpensive plastic tool with "spike wheels" on it. You run it all over the wallpaper, and then soak the paper with warm water via sponge. (You could use the steamer too, after that.)
It should pull right off if it's water soluble glue. The sizing should help it come off like you said.

thanks, atty! but i got only about 20 feet left - that might have been the better way to do it though since it's very slow-going with the steamer where the paper runs along the soffit. gotta keep the steam away from the crown molding on top and cabinets below ............... sigh
tere's some intersting stuff on the market but i shall abstain once i get this stuff down
