atty, classy has had charlie and obie for years and years. i don't think classy ever mentioned the reason for charlie's passing but environmental causes seem unlikely to me. i'm not saying it does not happen with experienced bird keepers but it's very, very rare.
both of her parrots were way beyond their teens, i believe, so it could be age-related
my heart breaks for her

Charlie, the Blue and Gold Macaw, was at least 10 when we got him, I had him for almost 30 years.
Near as I could tell he must have had a seizure or stroke and broke his neck when he fell off his perch.

Obie was less than 2 months old when I got him in August 1984, he was a wild caught bird that I tamed...such a love, he was my companion, my heart.
(the shop that I got him from got raided in like 1985 for illegal capture and they went around and took all the birds that sold from the owners...fortunately we paid cash for him and had no address on the receipt)



God it was awful with the silence this morning

@ ces - yes, 30 yrs is amazing but still short of what every bird owner hopes for.
