My departmental transfer will be official on March 1. I signed the new contract yesterday and submitted my 30 day notice. I've started moving some stuff to the new (smaller) space, but will need movers for the big stuff. I'm not looking forward to breaking down and packing the microscopes. I'll have to do that and move them myself- not trusting movers or grad students for that. defrosting lab freezer and cleaning lab fridges is also on the to-do list. Oh joy. ;)

I'd prefer to pay someone else to do it ;) ...just cause it's fragile equipment, and I'm not used to being the 'expert' for the high end stuff. But it's part of a larger rig that i get to take with me because only one other person in the department has the expertise to use it- and he's already got a better, newer stuff. (and the only person i know at NASA is still employed by them :D )

It'll be fine. It's just a little daunting and I like to complain about stuff.

Nah, no certification required. It's a fluorescence 'scope and camera. They're part of a set up with an amplifier that allows me to record the electrical signals of cells. The amplifier and digitizer are mounted on a rolling rack, so that's just a matter of labeling the connections and settings. The scope has two light sources and bits and pieces that take a bit of care to move properly. The computers and monitors also have to be moved. Learning how to use all the bits and pieces takes some practice though. (I do give a few lectures on fluorescence microscopy theory. Athough use and theory isn't quite the same as breaking it down and putting it back together ;) )
